Software Engineer
We’re working with a specialist technology business delivering secure, mission-critical digital solutions across Defence and National Security. This is a hands-on engineering role where you’ll solve complex technical challenges and build software with genuine operational impact.
Role Overview:
- Location: Cheltenham – Hybrid, with occasional travel to Herefordshire
- Package: Competitive salary + bonus, 10% employer pension contribution, private medical cover, life assurance and 25 days’ holiday + bank holidays

What You’ll Be Doing:
- Designing, building and maintaining secure software solutions for highly regulated environments.
- Developing reliable Android applications using Kotlin and Jetpack Compose.
- Building scalable backend services and web APIs using Rust, Python or Go.
- Using Git to manage code effectively and support collaborative development.
- Containerising applications with Docker to create consistent development and deployment environments.
- Building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines to improve and automate software delivery.
- Producing clean, maintainable and well-documented code.
- Taking part in code reviews and contributing to engineering standards across the team.
- Developing proof-of-concept applications in fast-moving environments where requirements can evolve quickly.
- Working closely with engineers, architects and delivery specialists to solve complex technical problems.

Main Skills Needed:
- Strong commercial experience with Android development using Kotlin.
- Good understanding of Jetpack Compose and modern Android development practices.
- Backend development experience with at least one of Rust, Python or Go.
- Strong Git knowledge and experience working within collaborative development teams.
- Experience with Docker, CI/CD pipelines and automated testing.
- Understanding of software architecture and development principles including MVVM and UDF.
- Knowledge of web APIs, OpenAPI standards and core data structures.
- Comfortable developing within secure environments, including remote development environments and virtual machines.
- Strong problem-solving, communication and collaboration skills.
- Comfortable working on PoCs where priorities and requirements can change quickly.
- Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related discipline.
- Must hold, or be eligible to obtain, UK Security Clearance.
