Description
Bede builds market-leading gambling entertainment experiences, and great front-end engineering plays a huge part in how our products feel, perform and scale.
We’re looking for a Front-end leaning Software Engineer to join our Experience Tribe in Newcastle. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys building high-quality, user-facing features, cares about clean and reusable code, and wants to work closely with product and other engineers to bring ideas to life.
This is a hybrid role that requires you to be in our Newcastle upon Tyne office two days a week. Please apply only if you’re comfortable with this arrangement.
What You'll Be Doing
- Building and evolving user-facing features using modern frontend technologies
- Writing clean, reusable and scalable code that stands the test of time
- Working closely with Product and other engineers to ensure designs are technically feasible and well-implemented
- Optimising applications for performance, responsiveness and scalability
- Contributing to documentation and shared knowledge, helping the whole team move faster
- Taking part in Scrum ceremonies and collaborating openly within your team
- Reviewing code, sharing feedback and supporting high engineering standards
- Debugging and problem-solving across frontend applications

What We Are Looking For
- Strong experience with HTML, CSS (including SASS) and JavaScript
- Experience working with JavaScript frameworks, ideally React Native with TypeScript
- Comfortable consuming RESTful APIs and working with JSON
- Confident building responsive, iOS and Android applications
- Experience incorporating AI-assisted development tools (such as GitHub Copilot, Claude or similar) into the software development workflow to accelerate delivery, enhance code quality and improve productivity
- Experience with asset build tools and frontend tooling
- Solid understanding of Git and version control workflows
- A good grasp of accessibility, web standards and UX best practices
- Experience reviewing code and sharing knowledge with others
- A practical, problem-solving mindset and the ability to debug effectively
- Happy working independently on tasks while also collaborating as part of a team
