About The Role

The Principal Software Engineer role at Accenture is a senior management position based in Manchester, requiring the candidate to be willing to travel to client sites across the UK on an ad hoc basis. This role involves leading end-to-end software engineering initiatives, managing client relationships, and overseeing project delivery from a holistic perspective. The successful candidate will work closely with clients to develop and implement innovative digital products, ensuring technical excellence while aligning with business goals. As a key leader within the Software & Platform Engineering team, you will be responsible for guiding technical teams, fostering best practices, and driving value-driven solutions.

Qualifications

  • Significant experience leading software engineering teams and growing team members’ careers
  • Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with stakeholders expecting results
  • Extensive experience developing backend services across multiple integration paradigms, including synchronous API-driven, message-driven, and event-driven architectures
  • Fluency in at least one programming language: Java, C#, Python, TypeScript, or React
  • Recent hands-on experience building, deploying, and managing cloud-native applications on AWS and/or Azure
  • Strong practical knowledge of defining strategies and delivering products and services, optionally including professional-level certification in Agentic AI
  • Experience working within DevOps teams adhering to industry-standard practices
  • Ability to produce repeatable, automated tests for personal and team work
  • Excellent collaboration skills with a passion for problem-solving and building solutions with diverse teams
  • Comfortable with change and eager to learn new technologies and methodologies

Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor software engineering teams, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement
  • Manage client accounts holistically, including people, delivery, quality, and commercial aspects
  • Collaborate with clients to design, develop, and deploy innovative digital products and services
  • Define technical strategies and oversee the delivery of cloud-native applications on AWS and Azure platforms
  • Ensure the implementation of industry-standard DevOps practices, including automation and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD)
  • Develop and maintain automated testing frameworks to ensure high-quality deliverables
  • Act as a technical advisor, providing thought leadership and guidance on emerging technologies and best practices
  • Contribute to internal engineering communities, sharing knowledge, and shaping technical discussions
  • Adapt to changing project requirements and continuously expand technical expertise to meet client needs
