About The Department
This role is based in Manchester within Connected Trip Search in the Marketplace Business Unit. The Conversational Search Experience team works with colleagues across Manchester, Amsterdam, and other locations to deliver customer-facing search experiences.
The team is multidisciplinary and includes Android, iOS, backend, and full-stack engineers, as well as Product, Design, UX, data, and other specialist partners. Together, the team explores and delivers conversational and search experiences that help customers find relevant travel options more naturally and effectively.
Role Overview
The role will be a full stack role, comprising front end (MFE and BFF) and back end functionality (Java Web Services). It will be deployed to a tailored version of the AWS tech stack.
In this role, you will contribute to exciting, high-impact initiatives. You will help build and improve innovative features and you will have direct experience of using AI Agents in an Agile framework. Our preferred approach is for engineers to define specifications or intents (the what) plans (the how), specifications (acceptance criteria), and task (detailed tasks where the AI will need a ‘steer’) in a format an AI Agent can understand. The generated code will need to be reviewed, tested etc. and the Engineer will ultimately take overall responsibility for it. We would expect an AI agent to do the ‘time consuming’ work of writing the code.
Key Job Responsibilities And Duties
As a Full-Stack Engineer you will be responsible for the development, performance, and scaling of both frontend and backend systems. You will be able to work independently while also working closely with other engineers, product managers, and UX designers as required. You will build new features that enhance customer engagement using the latest Agentic AI technology. You will be working on a new programme within the world’s leading online travel agent. While integrating with existing platforms, this role will primarily be to deliver innovative new features within a priority project. The stack will be split between A micro frontend, BFF and back end java components. We would expect candidates to be proficient in all of these, although we may balance this across the team overall.

- Feature Development: Contribute to developing and optimizing user-facing features on our public-facing web and app platforms using modern frontend frameworks and the latest Agentic AI methodologies. This will include using AI Agents (e.g. Claude, Codex and other in house agents) and exploiting AI technologies for end user engagement (i.e integrating AI into our website and apps to drive engagement).
- Backend Integration: Help build, maintain, and scale backend services, including our push notification infrastructure and API connectivity platforms and connection to our order platform.
- Collaborative Execution: Translate product requirements and design mockups into fully functioning, responsive, and accessible features using Agentic AI.
- Code Quality: Take responsibility for delivering clean, testable, and maintainable code that will primarily have been developed by AI agents. Actively participate in code reviews to ensure quality and learn from your peers.
- System Reliability: Assist in monitoring system health, addressing bugs, and gaining hands-on experience with SLIs and SLOs to ensure high performance.
- Team Culture: Advocate for a collaborative working environment. Participate in agile ceremonies and proactively share ideas to reduce technical debt or improve team processes.
Working in a multi team environment, you will enjoy delivering to agreed timescales and working with your colleagues within and outside your team, to ensure these timescales are met, with quality code.
Role Qualifications And Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience (e.g., graduating from a recognized coding bootcamp).
- 3+ years of hands-on professional experience in full-stack, frontend, or backend web development.
Skill Expectation
- Frontend: Solid experience working with vanilla JavaScript/TypeScript, modern frameworks (e.g., React or Vue.js), HTML, and CSS.
- Backend: Experience with at least one server-side programming language and framework (minimally Java or Java derived frameworks) and an understanding of how to build and consume APIs (REST or GraphQL).
- Agentic AI: You will have direct personal experience of deploying new features using Agentic AI, and also delivering end use AI features using existing AI technologies.
- AWS: You will be experienced and proficient in delivering code using the AWS stack, including build and deploy tools (CloudFormation etc.)
- Databases: Basic understanding of database systems (SQL or NoSQL) and data modeling.
- Collaboration & Execution: Ability to translate product requirements and mockups into fully functional features, working closely with UX designers, product managers, and other engineers.
- Code Quality: Ability to write unit and integration tests across the stack to maintain high code quality and reliability.
- Tools: Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git).
- Communication: Fluency in English with excellent written and spoken communication skills, enabling you to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical peers.

Desirable Skills & Experience (The "Nice-to-Haves"):
- Infrastructure & DevOps: Familiarity with modern deployment tools and methodologies, such as Kubernetes, Docker, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud platforms.
- Systems Understanding: Basic understanding of software delivery aspects: deployments, monitoring (SLIs/SLOs), scalability, and fault tolerance.
- Domain Knowledge: Any basic familiarity with or strong interest in user engagement and renewal, recommendation systems, or push notification infrastructure will be considered a strong advantage for this specific team.
- Data-Driven Development: Familiarity with product development processes that rely on data analytics and A/B testing.
- Scale: Prior experience working on products or platforms that impact a large, global user base.
