About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Software Engineer to join Bauer Media's new in-house software engineering hub in Manchester. This pivotal role involves leading the development of scalable, secure, and high-performance systems that underpin Bauer Media’s innovative audio platform. As part of a collaborative, product-focused team, you will be instrumental in shaping the technical foundation of our digital offerings, contributing to early-stage prototyping, infrastructure development, and the ongoing enhancement of our platform. You will work closely with cross-disciplinary teams, including product managers and lead engineers, to ensure alignment with strategic goals and technical excellence. Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background with experience in software engineering, particularly within a microservices or domain-driven architecture. Proficiency in Java Spring Boot, AWS, Kubernetes, Kafka, and TypeScript/React is essential. Demonstrable experience in designing and building scalable services, implementing CI/CD pipelines, containerization, and applying DevOps best practices is required. A solid understanding of security standards, incident management, and operational excellence is also important. Additionally, candidates should have excellent communication skills, with a proven ability to mentor junior engineers and collaborate effectively across disciplines. Industry experience in media, audio streaming, or consumer platforms is advantageous, but a passion for innovation and a proactive attitude are equally valued.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain features and services across the platform, taking full ownership from design to deployment.
- Contribute to early-stage prototyping and infrastructure work, helping to define the foundational elements of the platform.
- Participate in architectural decisions within your squad, sharing expertise to inform technical choices.
- Collaborate with Lead Engineers and product teams to ensure alignment with technical direction and delivery objectives.
- Support the growth of junior engineers through code reviews, pairing, and knowledge sharing, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
- Contribute to interview processes and assist new team members in onboarding effectively.
- Champion DevOps practices, including CI/CD, automation, and observability, to enhance operational efficiency.
- Lead testing strategies and uphold security standards in daily development activities.
- Participate in incident management, providing technical support and clear communication during high-pressure situations.
