About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Software Engineer to join Bauer Media's new in-house software engineering hub in Manchester. This pivotal role involves leading the development of scalable, secure, and high-performance systems that underpin Bauer Media’s innovative audio platform. As part of a collaborative, product-focused team, you will be instrumental in shaping the technical foundation of our digital offerings, contributing to early-stage prototyping, infrastructure development, and the ongoing enhancement of our platform. You will work closely with cross-disciplinary teams, including product managers and lead engineers, to ensure alignment with strategic goals and technical excellence. This role offers an exciting opportunity to influence the future of Bauer Media’s digital products and to be part of a vibrant, inclusive environment that values innovation, continuous learning, and engineering mastery.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background with experience in software engineering, particularly within a microservices or domain-driven architecture. Proficiency in Java Spring Boot, AWS, Kubernetes, Kafka, and TypeScript/React is essential. Demonstrable experience in designing and building scalable services, implementing CI/CD pipelines, containerization, and applying DevOps best practices is required. A solid understanding of security standards, incident management, and operational excellence is also important. Additionally, candidates should have excellent communication skills, with a proven ability to mentor junior engineers and collaborate effectively across disciplines. Industry experience in media, audio streaming, or consumer platforms is advantageous, but a passion for innovation and a proactive attitude are equally valued.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain features and services across the platform, taking full ownership from design to deployment.
  • Contribute to early-stage prototyping and infrastructure work, helping to define the foundational elements of the platform.
  • Participate in architectural decisions within your squad, sharing expertise to inform technical choices.
  • Collaborate with Lead Engineers and product teams to ensure alignment with technical direction and delivery objectives.
  • Support the growth of junior engineers through code reviews, pairing, and knowledge sharing, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Contribute to interview processes and assist new team members in onboarding effectively.
  • Champion DevOps practices, including CI/CD, automation, and observability, to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Lead testing strategies and uphold security standards in daily development activities.
  • Participate in incident management, providing technical support and clear communication during high-pressure situations.
