Software Engineer – Data Platform Team

What You’ll Do

As a Software Engineer in the Data Platform team, you will play a pivotal role in developing, and maintaining scalable systems. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Implement scalable and reliable microservices on AWS infrastructure.
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration, continuous learning, and professional growth.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation for architectures, processes, and procedures.
  • Provide support during critical incidents and implement preventive measures.
  • Monitor and analyze AWS usage, providing recommendations for cost savings without compromising system performance and reliability.

What You’ll Bring

  • Demonstratable ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment, mentoring junior team members and contributing to a positive team culture.
  • Experience with Java development to build services and libraries with Java 11 and above.
  • Experience in developing and supporting backend systems for data processing within AWS.
  • Hands-on experience with foundational AWS services, such as; ALB, ECS, S3, ElastiCache, IAM, CloudWatch.
  • Knowledge of implementing and maintaining Kafka-based event-driven services.
  • Proficiency in either relational or NoSQL databases, with an understanding of database design, optimization, and management.
  • Champion AI-powered development tools (Cursor, Claude) across the full engineering lifecycle with an AI-First engineering mindset.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools, such as Terraform or AWS CloudFormation.
  • Knowledge of Jenkins and developing CI/CD pipelines.

Manager's Working Style & Team’s Purpose

You’re not just executing tasks—you’re shaping the data backbone that powers Mimecast’s cybersecurity products, while steadily growing into a system owner and technical decision-maker

  • Own critical components end-to-end – from design to production, not just implementation
  • Improve system scalability and cost efficiency, directly impacting business margins
  • Enable faster AI/ML and analytics use cases by delivering clean, reliable data
  • Identify gaps and drive platform improvements or new capabilities
  • Gradually influence architecture decisions and engineering standards

Compensation

The base salary range for this position is £48,000−£72,000 plus benefits. This range represents the minimum and maximum new hire compensation for this role. The position may also be eligible for incentive plans and additional benefits, in accordance with company policy and local regulations. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location with individual compensation also dependent on factors such as qualifications, experience, and skills. Final offers will reflect these considerations and may vary accordingly.
