About the Regtech

The RegTech department in the Fintech Business Unit at Booking.com is dedicated to ensuring compliance and managing risks through innovative regulatory technology solutions. Our vision is to provide seamless, secure, and efficient regulatory processes that support the overall business objectives and enhance the experience for both our partners and internal stakeholders.

Our key focus areas include:

  • Compliance platform: Leverages state-of-the-art technology to execute comprehensive sanctions screening across multiple dimensions.
  • Screening & Monitoring: Develop and implement systems to screen partners/customers data, transactions, and business relationships.
  • Risk Identification & Mitigation: Identify potential risks, flag suspicious activities, and collaborate with compliance teams to resolve them effectively.
  • Regulatory Reporting: Ensure adherence to international regulations by generating accurate, timely reports for regulators and stakeholders.
  • Technology Enhancement: Continuously improve algorithms and tools to enhance screening accuracy, reduce false positives, and streamline workflows.

Role Description

As a Software Engineer, you are responsible for the development, performance, and scaling of our services as well as internal systems. You will work independently and will also be responsible for making technical decisions within a team.

Key Job Responsibilities and Duties

  • Rapidly developing next-generation scalable, flexible, and high-performance systems
  • Self-starters with a collaborative, “can-do” attitude
  • Solving issues with the systems, prioritizing based on customer impact
  • Advocating development best practices within the team
  • Be owner for teams’ micro-services and services
  • Acting as an intermediary for problems, with both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Understanding the regulatory processes and how to best support our customers, partners, and compliance officers. Providing compliance officers/analysts with enhanced tooling experience, analytics, and reporting.
  • Contributing to the growth of Booking.com through interviewing, on-boarding, or other recruitment efforts

Qualifications & Skills

  • Minimum of 2 years of software development experience; using 2 or more server-side programming languages. Experience with Java is a must
  • Experience with micro-services is a must
  • Experience with building highly scalable distributed systems and batch processing pipelines with a focus on data integrity
  • Experience with multiple data storage technologies (MySQL, Hadoop, Cassandra)
  • Experience with AWS (DynamoDB, RDS, Step functions, EC2, Kinesis) is a plus.
  • Experience with unit, integration, and end-to-end testing paradigms
  • Experience with defining and upholding SLOs/KPIs and participating in architecture reviews for systems
  • Experience with Regulation, compliance policies is a plus
  • Past experience with payments or FinTech is a plus
  • Experience with security challenges for authentication and authorization
  • Experience of working on products that impact a large customer base and have a company-wide impact.
  • Experience in working with teams, colleagues spread across geographical locations is a plus.
