Role: Software Engineer II, Data
As a Software Engineer II, Data, you will design and build scalable, reliable, and observable data models and data pipelines across batch and streaming architectures, supporting structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data.
Outcomes and Activities
- Works from home; occasional planned travel to an assigned Southfield, Michigan office location may be required. However, this position is permitted to work at a Southfield, Michigan office location if requested by the team member.
- Designs and builds end-to-end data pipelines across batch and streaming architectures that process structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data with a strong emphasis on data quality, scalability, reliability, and observability.
- Partners with stakeholders to understand data requirements and implement effective data integration strategies.
- Writes unit tests and validates data against acceptance criteria.
- Applies and advocates for team coding, documentation, and testing standards.
- Conducts impact analysis to assess changes across applications.
- Develops a strong understanding of business processes to align technical solutions with business needs.
- Experiments with new ideas, validates assumptions, and recommends solutions.
- Participates in code reviews and communicates application changes.
- Documents code and projects for maintainability and support. This includes reading, writing, and reviewing design documents.
- Troubleshoots production issues and proposes effective solutions.
- Engages in continuous learning to improve design, code quality, and domain knowledge.

Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field; or equivalent work experience.
- Minimum 2 years of data engineering experience.
- Solid grasp of programming (Python, SQL, Pyspark, etc), data modeling, and database management (SQL/NoSQL).
- Experience designing scalable batch and/or streaming data pipelines.
- Strong understanding of data modeling.
- Familiarity with data governance, lineage, and quality frameworks.
- Fluency with AI tools and ADLC.
- Working knowledge of Databricks.
Preferred
- Experience with Apache Spark.
- Hands-on experience with AWS data services (e.g., S3, Glue, Lambda, MSK).
- Proficient in CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, code quality enforcement, and environment management for production-grade data systems.
- Experience in orchestration and transformation frameworks such as Airflow, dbt, and Dagster, along with cloud-native platforms like Databricks.

Target Compensation
- A competitive base salary range from $105,603– $152,884.
- This position is eligible for an annual variable cash bonus, between 7.5 - 15%.
- Bonus amounts are based on individual performance.
- Final compensation within the range is influenced by many factors including role-specific skills, depth and experience level, industry background, relevant education and certifications.
- Candidates who reside in the following major metropolitan areas may be eligible for a premium on top of the posted range based on their specific zone: San Francisco, Seattle, Boston, New York City, Los Angeles, and San Diego.
