Mail Technology is the IT service provider for the dmg media group of companies owned by DMGT (Daily Mail & General Trust). These include many well-known and widely loved brands such as Daily Mail, Mail Online, The Mail on Sunday, Metro, and The i Paper. Through our national newspapers, websites, and mobile services, we connect with over 45% of the UK’s adult population, with more than 130 million consumer touchpoints per month.
This role will focus on group-wide e-commerce projects, working across multiple Mail brands and products. It is a collaborative environment offering strong input and opportunities to build experience and take on broader responsibilities across the business.
Main Responsibilities
- Be hands-on in creating and managing test automation suites as required by business partners
- Work closely with Project Managers and the QA team to identify and transform repetitive QA tasks into reusable solutions
- Collaborate with DevOps to manage solutions from development through to deployment
- Pair with other testers to solve problems
- Communicate progress, risks, and issues effectively
- Create automation frameworks from scratch for regression testing and maintain existing automation suites
- Set up and execute both automated and manual test scenarios for new and ongoing projects
- Build RTM (Requirements Traceability Matrix) mapping for automation test scripts
- Track and manage automation defects through to closure
- Follow best practices to ensure software quality during regression and end-to-end testing

Person Specification
- Minimum of 5 years’ hands-on experience in a similar role
- Experience working in Agile teams with a strong understanding of Agile testing practices
- Proficiency in Playwright, WebdriverIO, Cucumber (BDD), and Appium
- Strong programming skills in TypeScript/JavaScript
- Experience with Git (source control)
- Experience with Jenkins (job builder/runner)
- Experience with GitHub Actions/Workflows
- Basic knowledge of performance testing tools (e.g., JMeter) and visual regression testing
- Basic knowledge of Docker
- Experience testing high-transaction, high-volume applications, including data security and test management
- Previous experience designing and developing test frameworks and maintaining test suites
- Experience using JIRA and test management tools for bug tracking and test case management
- Strong understanding of automation best practices and methodologies
Key Competencies & Behaviours
- Strong technical understanding of web front-end, back-end services, and databases (networking knowledge is a plus)
- Excellent communication skills to articulate testing practices and report progress, risks, and issues
- Detail-oriented with a continuous learning mindset and focus on optimisation
- Experience working closely with DevOps and Product Owners
- Ability to perform or oversee manual testing when required
- Proactive in refactoring and improving code quality
