SDET - Automation Testing - Permanent - Birmingham - Hybrid (2 Days in Office) - Business with purpose - Salary circa £70-75k plus a great benefits package
I'm working with a business based in central Birmingham who are looking for an SDET to join their IT development team, acting as a bridge between engineering and Test. They are at the start of their automation journey and this role needs the seniority to be able to advise and coach but without direct line management responsibilities.
It's a hands-on automation role. You'd be building and maintaining the automated test frameworks and suites that sit behind their applications and systems, covering functional, integration, regression, API and end-to-end testing, plus some performance and load testing. You'd also look after the testing side of their CI/CD pipelines.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
