About The Role

The Lead Software Engineer position at J.P. Morgan within the CIB – Markets Technology division offers an exciting opportunity to be at the forefront of financial technology innovation. As a key member of an agile development team, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and deploying high-quality, secure, and scalable technology solutions that support the firm’s business objectives. You will play a pivotal role in enhancing existing systems and building new products, leveraging advanced AI-assisted development tools and practices. The role requires a strong technical background, leadership qualities, and a passion for continuous improvement and innovation. You will collaborate with internal teams, external vendors, and startups, ensuring the delivery of resilient and compliant software solutions that meet enterprise standards.

Qualifications

  • Formal training or certification in software engineering or related fields
  • Hands-on experience in system design, application development, testing, and operational stability
  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages, preferably Java
  • Deep understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and agile methodologies
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, application resiliency, and security best practices
  • Proven track record of leading teams in utilizing AI-assisted development tools
  • Knowledge of responsible AI practices, data sensitivity, and secure handling of inputs/outputs
  • Understanding of financial services industry IT systems and regulatory requirements
  • Practical experience with cloud-native architectures at scale

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop innovative software solutions, including technical troubleshooting and problem-solving beyond routine approaches
  • Develop and review secure, high-quality production code, ensuring adherence to best practices and standards
  • Promote and drive team adoption of AI-assisted engineering practices to improve code quality and delivery timelines
  • Implement validation standards such as secure coding, peer reviews, and automated testing to ensure software integrity
  • Leverage SDLC tools and automation capabilities to enhance development efficiency and automation of remediation processes
  • Identify opportunities to automate recurring issues, thereby improving operational stability and system resiliency
  • Lead evaluation sessions with external vendors, startups, and internal teams to assess architectural designs and technical credentials
  • Participate in and promote communities of practice within Software Engineering, fostering awareness of emerging technologies
  • Mentor junior engineers and foster a culture of diversity, inclusion, and continuous learning within the team
