Role Description

The Software Engineer will design, develop, test, and maintain backend software components and services that power PIPERHOOK’s applications. Day-to-day responsibilities include:

The role involves writing clean, maintainable code, performing code reviews, and contributing to software architecture and documentation. The Software Engineer will also participate in sprint planning, stand-ups, and other engineering ceremonies to ensure timely delivery of high-quality software.

This is a full-time, on-site role based in Birmingham.

Qualifications

  • Strong foundation in Computer Science, including data structures, algorithms, and software design principles.
  • Experience in Software Development and Programming, with proficiency in at least one modern programming language (e.g., Java, C#, Python, JavaScript/TypeScript).
  • Knowledge of Back-End Web Development, including RESTful APIs, databases (SQL/NoSQL), and server-side frameworks.
  • Practical understanding of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) and design patterns for building modular, maintainable systems.
  • Familiarity with version control (e.g., Git), testing frameworks, and continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) practices.
  • Ability to analyze requirements, troubleshoot issues, and deliver solutions in a collaborative team environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and containerization (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) is a plus.
  • Strong communication skills and willingness to engage in code reviews, knowledge sharing, and ongoing learning.
