Description

Job Title: Software Engineer

Salary: £50,000 - £70,000

Location: Remote (we have an office in London, should you want to work in an office from time to time)

We’re Pod – one of the UK’s leading EV charging providers, trusted by over 250,000 customers and powering more than 5 million miles every single day. But behind the numbers is a team of passionate people working together to shape a smarter, more sustainable future.

We started off in 2009 as Pod Point, helping people make the switch to electric as EVs began to hit the road. Today, we’re leading the way into a smarter energy future. As part of the EDF family – the UK’s biggest generator of zero-carbon electricity – we have the strength and stability to grow for the future.

And we’ve started that growth already. In 2026, we welcomed EO Charging into the Pod family, bringing together Pod’s strengths in home, workplace, public and smart charging with EO’s specialist fleet and depot charging technology. The acquisition significantly expands our commercial fleet and energy management capabilities. Together, Pod and EO are helping logistics, transport and operational fleet customers electrify at scale, optimise charging performance and make better use of existing grid capacity.

Pod is the next evolution of Pod Point. As electrification becomes everyday, Pod is here to help build a brighter future for society by managing the flow of energy, making it affordable, accessible, and for the benefit of everyone. With 250,000 customers already trusting us to be at the heart of their EV life, we see Pod playing a leading role in the UK’s increasingly electrified future. Our focus is on powering not just homes and vehicles, but local communities and social progress.

Pod is here to help build a brighter future for society by managing the flow of energy, making it affordable, accessible, and for the benefit of everyone.

You'll be joining the connectivity squad, this is the team that receives and processes messages from hundreds of thousands of charging stations in the field. We serve the rest of Pod with events and services for querying and controlling our devices. This role is at the front-line of our platform, where we deal with high throughput, parallel processing and unpredictable real-world behaviour, not to mention taking the security of our network seriously. You'll be part of understanding the team's goals and the why behind them, working out the right solution, and building it end-to-end, as we work to make our network the most robust and versatile in the market.

You will:

  • Design, Build and Deliver Backend Services - You’ll develop and ship backend services in Go that process messages from our charging network. You'll take ownership of well-defined projects from design through to production, choosing the right technical approach and collaborating with your team when you need support or guidance
  • Build Reliable, Maintainable Software - You’ll write code that is designed to be understood as well as executed. You'll create automated tests, produce clear documentation and contribute to a codebase that remains maintainable as it grows. You'll confidently work within existing systems, identifying where patterns should be followed and where improvements should be made
  • Collaborate Through Code Review - You’ll actively participate in code reviews as a collaborative engineering practice. You'll provide constructive feedback, welcome input on your own work and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement. Through pairing and knowledge sharing, you'll also help support new joiners and less experienced engineers
  • Contribute to Technical Planning - You’ll bring an engineering perspective to sprint planning, scoping, estimation, kick-offs and reviews. You'll help shape technical solutions, identify risks early and suggest improvements that make the team more effective
  • Support Operational Excellence - You’ll help monitor the health of our systems through dashboards, alerts and support channels. You'll investigate issues, contribute to continuous improvements and identify opportunities to automate manual processes and reduce operational overhead
  • Use AI Thoughtfully - You’ll leverage AI tools where they genuinely improve productivity and software delivery. You'll use them to accelerate learning and execution while maintaining ownership of technical decisions, code quality and system understanding
  • Invest in Your Growth - You’ll work closely with your manager to continuously develop your technical skills, broaden your impact and identify opportunities for career progression within the engineering organisation.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

What You'll Bring:

  • Backend Engineering Experience - Experience building and operating backend services in a statically typed, compiled language within a commercial or comparable environment. Go experience is highly desirable, but strong experience with Java, C#, Kotlin, Rust or C++ is equally valuable. You'll also be excited to work with idiomatic Go and embrace its patterns and principles, rather than forcing approaches from other languages
  • Cloud and Infrastructure Knowledge - Practical experience working with modern cloud infrastructure, ideally AWS. You'll be comfortable with:
    • Databases
    • Containerisation
    • Event-driven architectures
    • Pub/Sub systems
    • Queue-based processing
    • Virtual networking
    • Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform
  • Strong Engineering Fundamentals - A solid understanding of software engineering best practices, including:
    • Version control and pull request workflows
    • Automated testing strategies
    • CI/CD pipelines
    • Secure software development practices
    • Writing maintainable and supportable code
  • Problem Solving and Ownership - The ability to break complex problems into manageable components, design practical solutions and deliver them independently. You know when to seek support, collaborate and validate your thinking with others
  • Communication and Collaboration - Strong written and verbal communication skills. You're comfortable sharing ideas, discussing trade-offs, listening to different perspectives and adapting your approach when needed.
