Software Engineer (Python & AWS) — 6-Month Contract (Inside IR35)
We’re recruiting a Software Engineer to join a high-profile digital transformation programme, delivering secure, scalable software solutions using Python and AWS. This is a 6-month contract (Inside IR35), with a hybrid working pattern: primarily remote, plus 1 day per month in Bristol and 1 day per month in London.
About the Role
You’ll design, build, test and maintain software services that support critical business capabilities. Working closely with architects, engineers and product owners, you’ll help shape technical approaches, drive quality through code reviews and CI/CD, and support stable, reliable releases into production.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop and maintain software solutions in Python on AWS.
- Support discovery workshops, technical analysis and backlog refinement to prioritise delivery.
- Collaborate with architects and product teams to align with enterprise architecture and standards.
- Participate in peer code reviews to improve quality, maintainability and engineering best practice.
- Contribute to CI/CD pipelines to enable efficient and repeatable deployments.
- Troubleshoot and resolve application issues; support incident response and root-cause analysis.
- Contribute to Programme Increment (PI) planning, including estimation and dependency management.
- Support integration of cloud and platform services, including Amazon Connect where applicable.
- Continuously improve engineering processes, tooling and ways of working.

Skills & Experience
- Strong commercial experience designing and building services in Python.
- Hands-on experience with AWS (e.g. Lambda, API Gateway, S3, DynamoDB, EC2, IAM, CloudWatch).
- Familiarity with CI/CD tooling and practices (e.g. GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins, AWS CodePipeline).
- Experience working in agile teams, contributing to sprint/PI planning and backlog management.
- Solid understanding of software testing, code quality and secure coding practices.
- Good communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience with contact centre / telephony integrations (e.g. Amazon Connect) is advantageous but not essential.

Contract Details
- Duration: 6 months (with potential extension subject to programme needs).
- Engagement: Inside IR35.
- Day rate: £520–£600 per day (umbrella, all-in).
- Location: Hybrid — primarily remote, with 1 day/month in Bristol and 1 day/month in London.
- Start date: ASAP / as agreed.
