About The Role

The Lead Software Engineer (Product) at Monex UK plays a pivotal role in shaping and executing the technology strategy for our proprietary platforms. This leadership position involves overseeing the development of critical systems that underpin our global payments and FX risk management solutions. The role requires a strategic thinker who can guide the engineering team in adopting modern architectures, cloud-native technologies, and best practices to ensure scalable, secure, and compliant solutions. As part of the technology leadership team, you will collaborate closely with business stakeholders, product managers, and development teams to deliver innovative features and enhancements aligned with company objectives. Your expertise will drive the adoption of microservices, event-driven systems, and DevSecOps practices, ensuring our platforms remain resilient, efficient, and secure. Additionally, you will be responsible for mentoring engineering talent, managing stakeholder communications at executive levels, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulatory frameworks such as MiFID II, PSD2, and GDPR. This role offers an exciting opportunity to influence the future of Monex’s technology infrastructure and contribute to its continued growth and innovation in the financial services industry.

Qualifications

  • 5 – 10 years of experience in product engineering roles, with at least 3-5 years in financial services
  • Minimum of 3 years as a lead engineering manager on a modern, critical financial product (e.g., core platform)
  • Proven experience in end-to-end software engineering, including cloud platforms, APIs, and platform engineering
  • Experience working within a regulated investment or financial services firm
  • Strong knowledge of the regulatory environment affecting FX and derivatives
  • Demonstrable understanding of risk management and compliance in regulated environments
  • Excellent leadership and mentoring skills in high-performance engineering teams
  • Deep understanding of modern architectures such as microservices and event-driven systems
  • Experience with DevSecOps, CI/CD pipelines, and automation practices
  • Knowledge of security-by-design principles and regulatory compliance frameworks (MiFID II, PSD2, GDPR)

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic direction for Monex platforms, including corporate payments, API modernization, cloud initiatives, and real-time payment systems
  • Partner with business and delivery teams to develop scalable, secure, and compliant technology solutions
  • Act as a trusted advisor to clients and internal leadership on technology matters
  • Hire, develop, mentor, and retain top engineering talent, fostering a high-performance team environment
  • Collaborate with Product teams to align delivery roadmaps with strategic goals and OKRs
  • Drive adoption of modern architectures such as microservices and event-driven systems, leveraging cloud-native technologies
  • Establish and own CI/CD strategies, including pipeline standardization, security, and quality gates
  • Embed DevSecOps and SRE practices, including incident management, post-mortems, and capacity planning
  • Ensure compliance with data security, IT security standards, and country-specific regulations
  • Communicate technology strategy and progress effectively to executive stakeholders
  • Implement and monitor security-by-design principles across all engineering processes
  • Maintain compliance with regulatory frameworks such as MiFID II, PSD2, and GDPR, collaborating with security and risk teams
  • Align engineering processes across merged entities to enhance operational efficiency and scalability
