About The Role

We are seeking an exceptional Software Engineer to join the Risk Technology team at this elite hedge fund. This is a highly specialized position that deviates from traditional software engineering roles, offering the opportunity to work at the core of the firm’s investment and risk architecture. The successful candidate will be instrumental in building and evolving sophisticated platforms and tools used by risk analysts and portfolio managers to monitor exposures, understand portfolios, and make swift, informed decisions. The role involves working on complex engineering challenges related to real-time data processing, distributed systems, data pipelines, and cloud-native infrastructure. It offers a unique chance to have a tangible impact on the firm’s ability to manage risk and optimize investment strategies, working closely with risk and treasury teams, often in a forward-deployed capacity.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of professional software engineering experience
  • Exceptional proficiency in Python programming
  • Strong SQL skills and experience with relational databases
  • Deep understanding of software engineering principles, system design, and architecture
  • Extensive experience working on sophisticated distributed systems
  • Experience with messaging and streaming technologies such as Kafka
  • Data engineering expertise, including pipelines, Lakehouse architectures, and large-scale data processing
  • Hands-on experience with modern infrastructure tools such as Kubernetes, Docker, Helm, and cloud platforms
  • Experience with orchestration technologies like Airflow or Dagster
  • Knowledge of integrating AI into workflows
  • Proven track record of improving system performance, scalability, resilience, and monitoring
  • Strong communication skills, with experience working directly with senior non-technical stakeholders
  • Experience in project ownership from inception to support, with a focus on engineering excellence
  • Educational background in computer science or engineering from reputable institutions
  • Passion for technology, continuous learning, and open-source contributions

Responsibilities

  • Designing and architecting high-performance, scalable data pipelines and real-time applications
  • Developing systems capable of real-time processing and horizontal scaling
  • Implementing distributed systems, messaging, and event-driven architectures to meet business needs
  • Building and maintaining robust data platforms, including relational databases, data pipelines, and Lakehouse technologies
  • Enhancing system performance, resilience, observability, and reliability
  • Collaborating with risk and investment teams to understand their requirements and translate them into technical solutions
  • Partnering with infrastructure teams to leverage cloud, container, and microservices architectures
  • Introducing and advocating for best engineering practices across the risk function
  • Taking ownership of technical projects, from initial design through deployment and ongoing support
  • Challenging existing approaches and proposing innovative solutions to complex engineering problems
  • Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives, including automation, monitoring, and system optimization
