Role: Software Engineer
Location: Remote first; with face-to-face as required in Gloucester or London (Once a month).
Tech: C#,.Net, Blazor, APIs, Azure, Azure DevOps, Serverless, HTML, Moq, NUnit, Playwright.
Contract: 12 Month Fixed Term Contract

Role
As a Software Engineer at Howden, you will join one of our agile teams. You will harness the capabilities of Microsoft Azure, Blazor and C# to develop our front-end applications to create scalable, high-performing and user-friendly solutions that are secure and reliable.
You will participate in regular agile sessions, working closely with your team to deliver our roadmap whilst utilising your technical and critical-thinking skills. You will influence and encourage best practice. Our environment promotes cross-team learning and collaboration, ensuring you have opportunities to share knowledge and grow alongside your peers.

As an engineer you will be comfortable and committed to coaching and mentoring less experienced colleagues to help them progress. You will help drive up standards and quality as well as maximising throughput of the team through a robust CI/CD mindset. Strong ability to communicate effectively and work with other engineers to take part in architectural and technical designs and present these as part of team refinement.
About you:
- Experience developing object-oriented software using C# and.NET (.NET 8 or later), with a strong understanding of object-oriented principles, common design patterns and SOLID.
- Experience building modern, scalable applications using Microsoft technologies, with exposure to Azure cloud services, Blazor, APIs and serverless patterns.
- Familiarity with Azure DevOps or similar tools for source control, build automation, CI/CD and delivery workflows.
- A commitment to high-quality, maintainable and easy-to-understand code, supported by practices such as Test-driven Development, automated testing and iterative delivery.
- Strong understanding of secure software development, with the ability to identify and remediate risks across the software development lifecycle.
- Ability to troubleshoot issues methodically, use observability and monitoring tools, and apply data insights to support evidence-based decision making.
- Experience working in Agile teams, actively participating in ceremonies such as stand-ups, sprint planning, refinement and retrospectives.
- A strong communicator and facilitator, comfortable demonstrating working software to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience working with product owners and technical leaders to refine, design and architect solutions that align with, or appropriately challenge, existing patterns and technologies.
- Familiarity with architectural decision records and the ability to clearly document technical decisions, acceptance criteria, READMEs and onboarding guidance.
- Experience coaching and mentoring less experienced colleagues, helping to raise engineering standards and support team development.
- Ability to work with leadership to identify training needs and contribute to a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
