About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Lead Infrastructure Software Engineer to join our dynamic team in London, England. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for shaping and advancing the core infrastructural systems that underpin Apple’s cloud and backend services. You will lead the development of scalable, reliable, and efficient infrastructure platforms that manage exabytes of data at hyperscale. Your expertise will influence the future of Apple’s infrastructural services, working on cutting-edge technologies such as Kubernetes, Cassandra, Zookeeper, Kafka, and Redis, alongside internally developed solutions.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in software development and distributed systems, with proven leadership experience in delivering complex projects. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, guiding technical decisions, and ensuring the successful deployment of high-impact infrastructure solutions. Your role will involve creating API-driven services with a focus on resilience, performance, and user-centric features, impacting hundreds of millions of users globally. Qualifications
- Proven experience as a backend internet services software engineer in languages such as Golang (preferred), C++, Java, or Python.
- Successful track record of leading projects from design through to launch, aligning with business needs and scope management.
- Deep understanding of multi-threading, concurrency, and designing highly distributed applications.
- Knowledge of distributed system principles including CAP Theorem, microservices, and self-healing architectures.
- Familiarity with SDLC practices, including continuous integration, testing methodologies, TDD, and agile development.
- Understanding of foundational infrastructure concepts such as containerization, virtualization, and agent-based systems.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable, resilient infrastructural systems that support Apple’s cloud services at hyperscale.
- Lead technical initiatives and projects, ensuring timely delivery and alignment with organizational goals.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define requirements, architect solutions, and implement features that enhance platform capabilities.
- Mentor and guide engineering teams, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement.
- Participate in on-call rotations, incident response, and post-incident reviews to ensure high availability and reliability of services.
- Contribute to the development of internal tools and frameworks to streamline infrastructure management and deployment processes.
- Stay updated with emerging technologies and industry best practices to incorporate innovative solutions into the platform.
