About The Role
The Principal Software Engineer, Mobile at SharkNinja is a pivotal technical authority responsible for shaping the company's mobile engineering landscape. This role involves defining architectural standards, establishing engineering principles, and leading complex technical initiatives within SharkNinja's connected product ecosystem, including platforms such as SharkClean, NinjaPro Connect, and the upcoming unified app platform. The ideal candidate will tackle sophisticated challenges at the intersection of mobile development, firmware, cloud integration, AI, and consumer experience, exercising independent judgment on high-stakes, ambiguous decisions with long-term implications. As a key individual contributor, this role demands a deep expertise in mobile engineering, strategic thinking, and the ability to influence cross-functional teams to deliver innovative, reliable, and scalable mobile solutions.
Qualifications
- 12+ years of progressive software engineering experience with a focus on mobile development.
- Expertise in native iOS development using Swift and Android development using Kotlin.
- Proficiency in React Native and cross-platform frameworks.
- Deep understanding of mobile-to-cloud integration, BLE/Wi-Fi connectivity, and full-stack development from firmware to cloud services.
- Proven track record of solving complex mobile architecture challenges, including cross-platform unification and consumer-scale reliability.
- Recognized authority in mobile engineering, sought after for high-stakes decision-making.
- Experience in setting engineering standards, frameworks, and technical strategies at scale.
- Strong communication skills, capable of translating complex technical concepts for leadership and stakeholders.
- Preferred: Experience with Rust, C/C++, connected product/IoT/robotics, AI-integrated mobile architecture, platform unification, or large-scale architectural transitions.

Responsibilities
- Solve the most challenging technical problems related to native iOS/Android, cross-platform frameworks, cloud integration, device connectivity, and AI-driven features.
- Make and defend long-term architecture and technology decisions to ensure platform reliability and engineering velocity.
- Establish and evolve mobile engineering standards, including architecture patterns, testing philosophies, and production-readiness criteria.
- Define integration patterns across mobile, cloud, firmware, and connected devices, and shape platform strategies such as React Native versus native development.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and AI coding tools, providing strategic technical perspectives.
- Lead technical thought leadership by serving as the primary authority on mobile engineering across multiple disciplines, including firmware, cloud, hardware, product, and design teams.
- Conduct design reviews and foster communities of practice to elevate engineering quality organization-wide.
- Mentor senior and staff engineers, sharing expertise and guiding complex problem-solving efforts.
- Develop reusable frameworks, reference architectures, and documentation to support scalable mobile development.
- Champion AI-driven development workflows within the mobile engineering team.
- Design and implement AI-ready mobile architecture, integrating on-device inference, AI-powered features, and data contracts connecting mobile platforms to cloud AI services.
