Job Description

What We Do

We design, develop, deploy, and support real-time trading systems. We care deeply about system reliability, testability, recoverability, fault tolerance, throughput, and latency. We measure times in microseconds, sometimes even nanoseconds. Our engineers have a strong understanding of computer science fundamentals and software engineering. We are analytical thinkers. We are always learning our craft. If it's broken, we fix it. If it needs refactoring, we refactor it. If it's hard to test, we make it testable. We like statistics. We love automation. We are pragmatic. We ship code weekly. We're looking for like-minded individuals to join us.

About the Role

This is a unique hybrid engineering role for someone who combines deep expertise in test automation with a passion for build engineering and continuous delivery. Based in London, you will sit at the intersection of two critical disciplines — ensuring the quality of Cboe Europe's trading infrastructure through world-class automated testing, while simultaneously serving as a local engineering resource for our global builds and release process.

Cboe Europe operates three equities exchanges, one trade reporting facility, and a platform for systematic internalizers. The quality and reliability of these platforms is non-negotiable. You will be a key guardian of that standard.

Equally important, you will bring vision and leadership to our build engineering practice. You'll work closely with our builds team in the US to understand and support the existing release process, while proactively identifying opportunities to modernise it — leveraging current industry best practices to move us towards a faster, more reliable, and more automated delivery pipeline. This is not simply a role for someone who executes; it's a role for someone who can see what "good" looks like, build consensus across teams and time zones, and drive meaningful, lasting change.

What You'll Be Responsible For

Test Automation (Primary Focus)

  • Designing, developing, and maintaining automated tests, frameworks, and test infrastructure using object-oriented programming principles and production-quality code
  • Extending and improving our proprietary Python-based test automation framework
  • Analysing complex technical and financial business requirements to design comprehensive test scenarios that realistically represent real-world trading activity
  • Creating detailed test documentation and test plans for new features
  • Identifying, documenting, and tracking defects; verifying fixes resolve issues completely
  • Performing root cause analysis on test failures and system issues
  • Supporting and maintaining test environments, ensuring they remain stable and consistently "green"
  • Contributing to and improving continuous integration pipelines
  • Participating in code reviews, design discussions, and agile ceremonies
  • Working closely with software development, business, and trade desk teams across Cboe's global organisation

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

Build & Release Engineering (Secondary Focus)

  • Serving as the London-based point of contact for build and release activities, partnering with the US builds team to support our weekly release process across trading platforms
  • Providing oversight for build and test environments, ensuring stability and consistency
  • Contributing to the development and maintenance of CI/CD pipelines and status dashboards
  • Identifying and championing improvements to our build and release processes, with a clear vision for modernisation aligned to current industry standards
  • Gathering requirements, building consensus across engineering stakeholders, and designing and delivering a roadmap to evolve our build engineering practice
  • Developing and maintaining scripts and tooling to support build, test, and release activities
  • Supporting software configuration management and version control best practices

The Ideal Candidate Has

  • Strong programming experience in Python, with a track record of writing maintainable, well-documented, production-quality code
  • Proven experience designing and developing automated test frameworks and test infrastructure
  • Experience working in a continuous integration/continuous delivery environment, with tools such as Jenkins or GitHub Actions
  • Experience with version control systems, particularly Git
  • Linux/Unix proficiency as an end user, with the ability to perform system administration tasks and write shell scripts
  • SQL experience (PostgreSQL preferred) and familiarity with database platforms
  • Understanding of build tools such as Ant, Maven, or CMake
  • Familiarity with package managers such as npm, nix and uv
  • Familiarity with containerisation and virtualisation technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, and AWS
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills — able to articulate technical concepts clearly to both engineering and non-engineering stakeholders
  • A proactive, self-starting approach to identifying and resolving issues
  • Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field (preferred)

You'll Really Stand Out With

  • Experience with Jenkins CI/CD tooling, including pipeline management and failure troubleshooting
  • A demonstrable track record of leading or driving improvements to build and release processes at an organisational level — not just executing, but envisioning and delivering change
  • Experience working programmatically with the Atlassian toolset (Jira)
  • Experience in financial markets, with knowledge of order entry, market data protocols, or trading system architecture
  • Understanding of networking concepts and distributed systems

Who This Role Is For

This role is best suited for an experienced software engineer who is as comfortable writing test automation code daily as they are thinking strategically about delivery pipelines and build infrastructure. You are someone who writes code because you enjoy it, not because it's required. You understand the difference between where we are and where we could be — and you have the drive, the communication skills, and the technical credibility to close that gap. If you thrive in fast-paced environments, enjoy working across global teams, and want a role where your contributions directly impact the reliability of critical financial market infrastructure, we'd love to hear from you.
