Junior Software Developer – AI / Cybersecurity
Location: Manchester, UK
Salary: Competitive / DOE
Level: Graduate / Junior
I’m working with a growing technology company operating at the intersection of software, AI, and cybersecurity that is looking to hire an exceptional junior developer.
This is not a high-volume graduate hire.
They’re looking for someone with a standout academic background, excellent technical fundamentals, and clear evidence of strong problem-solving ability who wants to join a small, ambitious technical team and take on meaningful responsibility early in their career.
You’ll ideally have:
- First-Class degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Mathematics, Physics, or another highly technical subject
- Strong academic record from a leading UK or international university
- Excellent programming and computer science fundamentals
- Strong experience with Python and/or another backend programming language
- Evidence of technical ability through university projects, internships, research, personal projects, or open-source work
- Strong understanding of algorithms, data structures, and software engineering principles
- Genuine interest in AI, cybersecurity, backend engineering, or data-intensive systems
- Experience with APIs, databases, cloud technologies, or machine learning would be advantageous
- Strong analytical and problem-solving ability

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

This would suit an exceptional recent graduate or junior engineer with 0–2 years' experience who wants a technically demanding role and significantly more responsibility than a traditional graduate programme.
If you have a First-Class technical degree, strong coding ability, and a track record of excelling academically or technically, I’d be very keen to hear from you.
