About Dex
Dex is an AI recruiter agent that helps you run your job search. Tell Dex your stack, seniority, and what you want to build. We will manage your applications and surface other opportunities that are a fit.
The Role
This company is building the intelligence layer for payment fraud, a real-time investigation engine that gathers evidence across multiple sources, risk-scores it, and surfaces the right intervention before money moves. The core technical challenge is orchestrating multi-source evidence, synthesising unstructured data with AI agents, and returning confident verdicts fast enough that legitimate payments aren't delayed. They are backed by leading investors, working with major UK banks in production, and aiming to overlay this protocol across billions of transactions globally.
This role sits at the heart of that system. You will own the APIs and UIs banks use to integrate the investigation engine, the orchestration layer coordinating evidence across heterogeneous data sources, and the AI agents driving live investigation flows. This is not a feature factory; you will own systems end-to-end, from design to shipping and iteration, in a small, high-calibre team.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
Start with a chat, not a search bar
Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

The Work
- Design and build the external APIs and UIs that integrate a real-time investigation engine into major bank payment flows.
- Develop and scale the core orchestration layer, coordinating evidence gathering from heterogeneous, often unstructured, data sources.
- Engineer AI agents to synthesise complex data, generate confident risk verdicts, and trigger interventions at sub-second speeds.
- Build and maintain fault-tolerant distributed systems, ensuring 24/7/365 uptime for critical financial infrastructure.
- Make consequential architectural decisions, balancing performance, reliability, and data privacy in a high-stakes production environment.
What You Bring
- 5+ years of software engineering experience, with a track record of owning outcomes in an early-stage environment.
- Proven experience building and operating fault-tolerant distributed systems with stringent uptime requirements.
