Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of coding experience in one or more of the following languages: C, C++, Java, or Python.
  • 5 years of experience with front- and back-end technologies and modern web application development with modern web libraries and frameworks (e.g., Angular, Svelte, React, etc.)
  • Experience building prototypes for AI/ML systems, AI-native development tool-chains and workflows.
  • Experience with AI technologies, methods, and tools, building UIs and delivering prototypes.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • 8 years of experience with data structures and algorithms.
  • 3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization involving cross-functional, or cross-business projects.
  • 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction.

At Google DeepMind our mission is to build the world's first general-purpose learning agent. Central to this mission is the complex task of measuring the intelligence of our prototypes. As a Software Engineer, you will be working with the cutting edge AI agents developed by our exceptional team of Machine Learning and Neuroscience research scientists. Your responsibilities will include everything from creating systems for agent testing using 2D and 3D games to developing test problems within physics simulators. You will create graphical visualization of results, build competitive agent leaderboards and test new algorithms on robots. To succeed in this role you will need to have a strong foundation in software engineering and enjoy working on a wide range of challenging problems within a mission-driven team.

This team inspires and accelerates people-centric futures for emerging technologies across Google DeepMind. We work across disciplines, answering difficult user questions, prototyping, and sharing new UX practices with everyone.

In this role, you will work closely with UXDs, UXRs, PMs, and UXEs on iterative cycles of design, rapid prototyping, and user research. The core of your work will involve not just traditional full-stack development, but also a significant focus on prompt engineering to build AI-driven solutions. We are looking for a versatile and enthusiastic engineer who can take on new problems and push the boundaries of user interaction.

You will manage a wide range of ambiguous issues in nebulous areas of AI research. Much of our work is with early-stage, loosely-defined technologies and product areas. Artificial intelligence will be one of humanity’s most transformative inventions. Responsibilities

  • Design and develop the front- and back-ends of user-facing products, bringing a human-centered approach to brilliant research and technology.
  • Design, develop, test, and iterate on stable but experimental code for new user-facing features.
  • Focus on building dynamic workflows and collaborative tools tailored to specific user needs and content types.
  • Take ownership of the engineering implementation and delivery, including bug fixes and performance enhancements, to ensure a polished final product.
  • Engage in prompt engineering to create intelligent AI-driven user experiences.
