Software Engineering Delivery Manager | Derby | £90,000 + Bonus. 3 days a week in the office

This role is exclusive to Ascent People.
I'm working with a software business, head office in the Derby area with multiple sites across the UK, who are splitting their CTO role in two. The CTO is stepping back into strategy. This new role picks up everything else: the day to day running of a growing engineering function, with a clear path to taking on operations too.
You'll have four direct reports and an overall team of around 20. You'll work closely with a strong senior developer who leans into design decisions, and you'll have real influence over architecture and direction. This is a business that trusts you to get on with it.

- You won't sit in sprints. Nobody's asking you to be a project manager. This is about looking after the platform, including both internal and client facing systems, spotting the low hanging fruit and jumping in yourself when it helps the team, and still being hands on enough to write C# when it's needed.
- Operations will come into scope over your first nine months, and you'll be picking up the relationship with a third party MSP who manage cloud infrastructure and 1st line support.
- It's a genuinely reactive environment. There's process in place, but you won't be overly governed by it, and priorities can shift. If you need rigid structure to feel comfortable at work, this isn't your role. If you thrive when the ground shifts and you're the one who keeps the team steady through it, this could be exactly what you're looking for.

Stack is.NET, C#, React and TypeScript. Cloud infrastructure runs on AWS and Azure.
AI and Copilot are already part of how the team ships code, and they want someone with real opinions on making that work harder for the team, not replacing them.
Three days a week in the office at head office in the Derby area.
