What does it take to build a portal that turns a short job brief into a generated job description and tracks every applicant from first click to decision without a human re-entering the data? This is a Software Engineering Intern building the candidate-facing application portal at Zero-X, an engineering company turning waste into clean power. Zero-X was named to Fast Company's Most Innovative Companies list, Energy category, 2018, and is funded by Projekträger Jülich (PTJ), the German federal research agency. You leave with real execution experience — the one proof employers hire on: a thing you built that nobody asked you to build. Everyone has a degree. Almost nobody has proof.
What you build
- You build the candidate-facing application portal in React, from first input to submitted application.
- You build the JD generation service in Python that turns a short brief into a structured job post.
- The applicant tracking dashboard sits on top of both — every candidate state visible without a human re-entering it.
- The intake API and data model sit under all three, so one application flows through generation and tracking without a copy-paste step.

Where you do it — and why here
Thirty years building companies — New York, London, Tokyo, the Valley — and then it stopped mattering where the work happened. So the group runs this from Canggu. Epic Solutions PT runs the on-site program in Canggu, Bali. A modern company costs twelve people and a toolchain — so being wrong six times a year is part of how we build. The campus is 4,000 sqm, and the people who run the companies are on it every day. Everything you built last week is worthless, and that is the freedom: you are not married to it. Monday reset, Friday ship — send what you made. One cohort, on-site, the full phase — not remote. What this location buys is attention, not a view.

What happens after

- Unpaid under Indonesian law.
- A room is available on campus — rent paid by you.
- Epic Solutions PT hosts the on-site program and assists with the C22B internship visa process; the visa fee is yours.

Requirements
- A degree in computer science, engineering, or equivalent — proof you can finish something.
- Not the ability to know things.
- The ability to learn things quickly.
- Something you built that nobody asked for.
- AI is the stack, not hand-written code — Claude Code, Hermes, Codex; the skill is driving them and catching what they get wrong.
- On-site, 4–6 months.
