Software Engineering Manager – Manchester – Hybrid (2x a week onsite) - 6-month contract - £560 p/d (Inside IR35)

We’re looking for a Software Engineering Manager to join a globally recognised e-commerce client, leading a high-performing engineering team working on a key customer benefits and loyalty programme.

You’ll combine people leadership, delivery management and technical ownership, working closely with Product, Engineering and business stakeholders across international locations.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead, coach and motivate an engineering team.
  • Own delivery, roadmap progress, team health and KPIs.
  • Manage stakeholders, communicate progress and resolve blockers.
  • Take end-to-end ownership of services from development through production.
  • Provide technical and architectural guidance.
  • Drive software quality, security, scalability and reliability.
  • Monitor system health, performance and operational risks.
  • Support production incidents, root-cause analysis and postmortems.

Key requirements

  • 5+ years’ experience managing software engineering teams.
  • Strong software engineering and technical background.
  • Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Strong people leadership, coaching and communication skills.
  • Experience with production systems, reliability and incident management.
  • Experience providing technical and architectural guidance.
  • Strong stakeholder and delivery management skills.
