Software Engineering Manager
Location: Trafford, Manchester
Salary: Up to £95,000 + Annual Bonus
Working Pattern: Hybrid - 4 Days in the Office
A rapidly growing retail business is seeking an experienced Software Engineering Manager to lead and develop its engineering team. This is a hands-on leadership role combining people management, technical direction, and delivery ownership within a fast-paced e-commerce environment.
The Role
You'll lead a team of full-stack and backend engineers responsible for delivering and maintaining e-commerce platforms, integrations, and data systems. Working closely with senior stakeholders, you'll drive technical strategy, oversee project delivery, and promote engineering best practices across the business.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of software engineers.
- Own the engineering roadmap and delivery of key projects.
- Drive Agile processes and manage development priorities.
- Provide technical leadership across APIs, integrations, and backend services.
- Oversee integrations with ERP, fulfilment, and third-party platforms.
- Champion best practices around code quality, testing, and CI/CD.
- Collaborate with stakeholders across the business to deliver scalable technology solutions.
About You
- 5+ years' experience in software engineering.
- 2+ years' experience leading or managing engineering teams.
- Strong background with Node.js or similar backend technologies.
- Experience building APIs (REST/GraphQL) and integrating third-party systems.
- Knowledge of serverless architectures (AWS Lambda or equivalent).
- Experience with databases such as MongoDB, PostgreSQL, or BigQuery.
- Strong understanding of Agile delivery, Git, CI/CD, and modern development practices.
- Previous experience within retail, e-commerce, or high-traffic digital environments is highly desirable.
