Software Engineering Manager – Manchester – Hybrid (2x a week onsite) – 6-month contract - £560 p/d (Inside IR35)
Software Engineering Manager required to join our globally recognised e-commerce client and their high-performing engineering team, working on a key customer benefits and loyalty programme. The Software Engineering Manager will lead the engineering team and work closely with Product, Engineering and wider business stakeholders across multiple international locations.
The role combines people leadership, delivery management and technical ownership, with responsibility for ensuring the team delivers high-quality, scalable and resilient services to agreed timescales. You will analyse technology trends, resource requirements and market demand to help plan effectively for both current needs and future growth. You will also take end-to-end ownership of services, actively monitor application health and performance, while identifying and reducing business continuity risks.

Key responsibilities
- Lead, coach and motivate an engineering team.
- Own delivery, roadmap progress, team health and KPIs.
- Manage stakeholders, communicate progress and resolve blockers.
- Take end-to-end ownership of applications and services through development, deployment and production.
- Provide technical and architectural guidance.
- Build and maintain high-quality, secure and reusable software.
- Monitor system health, performance and reliability.
- Support production incidents, root-cause analysis and postmortems.
- Drive continuous improvement across processes, systems and ways of working.
- Support recruitment and headcount planning.
- Work collaboratively with Product Managers, engineers and technical stakeholders.
- Potential involvement in an on-call rotation.

Key requirements
- 5+ years’ experience managing software development teams.
- Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or related field, or equivalent experience.
- Strong people leadership, coaching and communication skills.
- Strong software engineering and technical background.
- Experience with production systems, reliability and incident management.
- Experience providing technical and architectural guidance.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Strong stakeholder and delivery management experience.
- Proactive, collaborative and delivery-focused approach.
Day Rate: £560 p/d (Inside IR35)
Duration: Initial 6-month
Location: Manchester, 2x a week onsite
