Are you an experienced software engineering leader looking to apply your technical expertise on a broader scale?

We're recruiting on behalf of a well-established organisation investing in the future of its technology capability. They're looking for a technically credible leader who can combine hands-on software knowledge with strategic thinking to shape how digital technology, automation, and AI are used across the business.

This isn't a role for someone who's moved completely away from technology. You'll need to be comfortable understanding software architecture, reviewing AI-generated code, challenging technical approaches, and helping establish robust engineering standards, while also working closely with senior stakeholders to shape the organisation's digital direction.

Working alongside the IT Director, you'll play a key role in modernising systems, improving software processes, and identifying opportunities where technology can deliver genuine business value.

What you'll be doing

  • Designing and overseeing technical solutions that are secure, scalable, and maintainable.
  • Reviewing AI-assisted development and ensuring code quality and engineering best practice.
  • Improving software development processes, governance, and technical standards.
  • Identifying opportunities to automate and streamline business processes.
  • Working across multiple systems to improve integration, efficiency, and the flow of information.
  • Acting as the bridge between technical teams and senior business stakeholders, translating complex technical concepts into practical outcomes.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
