Software Engineering Manager – Food & International Food

We are modernising the platforms that power how M&S Foods designs products, collaborates with suppliers, and manages commercial decisions.

These systems sit at the centre of the M&S Foods ecosystem and support thousands of internal users and suppliers across product development, supply chain, and commercial operations. Our focus is evolving a complex landscape of legacy systems and point-to-point integrations into API-led and event-driven distributed systems that are easier to scale, operate, and extend.

About the Role

This role involves shaping the architecture and technical direction of platform systems, working across multiple product teams to solve complex engineering challenges, and improving system reliability. The ideal candidate should lead teams, establish shared patterns, and enable safer, more efficient development.

Domains of Focus

This role may specialise in one of the following domains:

  • Product Data & New Product Development
  • Supplier & Commercial Platforms

What You’ll Work On

You will address technical challenges such as:

  • Simplifying complex legacy integrations across enterprise systems
  • Defining clear domain boundaries and service ownership
  • Transitioning from batch/person-to-person integrations to API-led and event-driven architectures
  • Designing reliable APIs and event contracts for cross-team use
  • Improving platform observability, resilience, and operational visibility
  • Enabling shared platform capabilities to reduce duplication

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
