Software Engineering Manager (.NET / Azure / Full Stack)
Solihull (1 day per week onsite)
£70,000 - £80,000 | No Sponsorship Available
VIQU have partnered with a market-leading software business undergoing a significant technology transformation. They are looking for a Software Engineering Manager to lead two development squads of around 8 engineers, raise team performance and introduce stronger engineering standards across the development function.
This is a hands-on management role, with approximately 50-60% of your time spent coding across.NET, C#, JavaScript/TypeScript, Angular/React, Azure and SQL Server. The Software Engineering Manager will assess the capability of the existing team, coach and develop engineers, address performance and skills gaps, and improve areas including code reviews, automated testing, CI/CD, release management and software quality.
Key Responsibilities of the Software Engineering Manager
- Lead, manage, coach and develop two software development squads.
- Assess individual and team capability, identify skills gaps and build plans to address them.
- Hold developers accountable for technical quality, standards and delivery.
- Support recruitment and team changes where additional capability is required.
- Drive engineering best practice including code reviews, testing, CI/CD and release management.
- Remain hands-on with development across.NET, C#, JavaScript/TypeScript and Azure.
- Modernise legacy applications and help shape future architecture.
- Improve delivery processes, estimation, technical quality and team performance.
- Work closely with Product, QA and senior stakeholders, including client-facing technical discussions.
- Manage Azure services and help optimise cloud usage and technical vendor relationships.

Requirements of the Software Engineering Manager
- Previous experience working as a Software Engineering Manager or in a comparable role with genuine responsibility for managing software developers.
- Proven experience improving the performance and capability of a development team.
- Strong people management skills with experience coaching, challenging and developing engineers.
- Strong background in Full Stack development with C#,.NET and JavaScript/TypeScript.
- Commercial experience with Angular and/or React.
- Strong Azure cloud experience, including CI/CD and modern development practices.
- Proven track record of introducing or improving code reviews, automated testing, release management and engineering standards.
- Experience modernising legacy applications and contributing to software architecture.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Comfortable balancing hands-on development with management, technical leadership and accountability for team performance.
