This is a Hybrid Position with 3 days/ week in our Manchester Office
You will join M&S at a pivotal moment as we continue the transformation of our Time & Labour division. The Time & Labour area delivers enterprise SaaS solutions that enable the effective scheduling of our colleagues and support People Hub activities, ensuring the smooth operation of payroll processes.
As an Engineering Manager, you will lead engineering teams responsible for these enterprise SaaS platforms, leveraging core product capabilities and delivering an outstanding digital experience for our colleagues. Combining strong people leadership, product expertise and technical knowledge, you will drive engineering excellence, continuous learning and agile delivery across the function.
Working closely with architects, product managers, principal engineers, SaaS vendors and fellow engineering leaders, you will help shape the future of key workforce management and payroll technologies. This role is ideal for someone passionate about enterprise SaaS products, innovation and the application of AI to improve colleague experiences and operational efficiency.

What you'll do
Your key accountabilities will include:
- Lead, mentor and develop high-performing engineering teams, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation and continuous improvement.
- Provide technical leadership across HCM and Scheduling SaaS platforms, ensuring scalable, secure and maintainable solutions and integrations.
- Partner with product, architecture and engineering stakeholders to deliver business outcomes, manage dependencies and drive agile delivery excellence.
- Own the Time & Labour technical roadmap, overseeing planning, execution and continuous enhancement of colleague-facing digital experiences.
- Drive quality, reliability and operational excellence through effective release management, platform lifecycle governance and a strong DevOps culture.

Who you are
Your skills and experience will include:
- Proven experience leading engineering teams delivering high-quality enterprise SaaS solutions at scale.
- Hands-on experience designing, configuring and supporting HCM and Scheduling platforms with deep expertise across Payroll, Absence, Forecasting and Scheduling capabilities.
- Strong ability to modernise technology landscapes, simplify complexity and reduce technical debt through end-to-end service ownership.
- Experience managing multi-disciplinary teams while balancing product delivery, platform support and stakeholder expectations.
- A pragmatic problem solver who can navigate ambiguity, make informed decisions and translate complex payroll and workforce management requirements into practical technology solutions.
