Senior Engineering Manager (VP)

London | Hybrid Working | Initial 3-Month Contract | Inside IR35

We are currently seeking an experienced Senior Engineering Manager (VP) to join a leading financial services organisation undergoing significant technology transformation and platform modernisation.

This is an excellent opportunity for an accomplished engineering leader to drive delivery across multiple teams, shape engineering strategy, and support large-scale technology initiatives within a complex enterprise environment.

The Role

As a Senior Engineering Manager, you will lead multiple engineering teams responsible for delivering business-critical platforms and services. You will play a key role in driving engineering excellence, technology delivery, governance, and team development, while working closely with senior business and technology stakeholders.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in engineering leadership, Agile delivery, stakeholder management, and building high-performing teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, develop, and mentor engineering managers, technical leads, and software engineers.
  • Drive the successful delivery of strategic technology programmes and initiatives.
  • Establish engineering standards, governance, and best practices.
  • Manage technology health, delivery quality, and operational performance.
  • Oversee technical risks, dependencies, and issue resolution.
  • Champion Agile delivery methodologies and modern engineering practices.
  • Support DevOps adoption, automation, and CI/CD maturity.
  • Collaborate with senior stakeholders to align technology outcomes with business objectives.
  • Drive continuous improvement across engineering capabilities and delivery processes.
  • Support platform modernisation, cloud transformation, and legacy decommissioning initiatives.

Required Experience

  • Proven experience as an Engineering Manager, Senior Engineering Manager, Engineering Director, or similar leadership position.
  • Strong experience leading multiple software engineering teams within enterprise environments.
  • Demonstrated success delivering complex technology transformation programmes.
  • Extensive stakeholder management experience, including engagement at senior leadership level.
  • Experience with:

    • Risk & Dependency Management
    • DevOps & CI/CD
    • Secure Software Development
    • Talent Development and Coaching

Desirable Experience

  • Financial Services, Banking, Lending, or FinTech experience.
  • AWS and cloud transformation programmes.
  • Platform migration and modernisation initiatives.
  • Legacy system decommissioning.
  • Event-Driven Architecture.
  • Jira, Confluence, SonarQube, and Veracode.
  • Vendor and third-party supplier management.

Working Arrangement

This is a hybrid working role based in London.

  • Candidates will be expected to attend onsite meetings and collaborate with teams across the organisation's London offices, with travel required between Canary Wharf and Liverpool Street locations as needed.

Contract Details

  • Initial 3-month contract
  • Inside IR35
  • Competitive day rate
  • Potential extension subject to programme requirements
