Software Engineering Team Lead

📍 Cardiff (Hybrid Working)
đź’° Up to ÂŁ75,000 + Bonus

CPS Group are supporting an established technology-driven organisation in Cardiff who are looking for an Software Engineering Team Lead to join their growing software engineering function.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Senior Software Engineer or Team Lead who enjoys technical leadership, mentoring engineers and shaping engineering practices. You’ll play a key role in guiding Agile teams, influencing architecture and helping drive the technical direction of a modern software platform.

The Role

You’ll provide technical leadership across multiple engineering teams, supporting delivery, improving engineering standards and helping engineers grow. You’ll work closely with Product, Engineering and senior stakeholders to ensure high-quality solutions are delivered against estimates/to time, and to cost.

This is a predominantly hands-off role, however you’ll be expected to get stuck into development when timelines are looking tight.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical leadership across software engineering teams
  • Guide software design, architecture and engineering best practice
  • Support delivery planning, prioritisation and risk management
  • Mentor engineers through feedback, coaching and development
  • Collaborate with Product and stakeholders to deliver business objectives
  • Drive improvements across engineering processes, quality and delivery
  • Support recruitment and help build high-performing teams
  • Encourage modern development practices, automation and AI tooling

What We’re Looking For:

  • Experience as a Team Lead, Senior Engineer or Engineering Lead
  • Strong Java and Spring Boot development experience
  • Experience delivering software within Agile environments
  • Ability to influence technical decisions and mentor engineers
  • Strong communication skills across technical and non-technical teams
  • A passion for building quality software and improving engineering practices

  • Financial Services / FinTech experience
  • React and TypeScript
  • CI/CD tools such as Jenkins
  • Monitoring and observability tools including Grafana or Prometheus
  • Interest in AI-enabled software development
