Senior Software Engineer (Contract) - YLD London

Location: London (1-2 days a week) Department: Engineering Employment Type: Contract Contract Length: 6 months (with potential for extension)

About the Role

As a Senior Software Engineer at YLD, you’ll be part of a client team building innovative products. We’re looking someone curious, passionate, driven, and enthusiastic with demonstrated experience in scalable, resilient, and fault-tolerant architectures.

Your communication skills and ability to work effectively as a strong team player are critical. Together with your team, you’ll thrive in a fast-paced engineering environment, delivering outstanding results and working on exciting projects.


Responsibilities (Key Expectations)

Core Engineering Priorities

  • Design, develop, and maintain high-quality, scalable backend systems with Go as the primary language (preferred).
  • Build ** APIs and backend services**, including SaaS platforms, that meet business needs and deliver resilience.
  • Leverage cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP) to deploy, manage, and optimise distributed systems.
  • Implement modern infrastructure solutions, including containerisation (Docker), orchestration (Kubernetes), and DevOps practices.
  • Drive testing strategies, including TDD, across the full system lifecycle, with a focus on performance optimisation.

Requirements & Expectations

✅ The role is ideal for self-motivated, proactive professionals—with the following priorities:

  • Technical Proficiency

    • Strong backend engineering experience, with preference for Go.
    • Experience with cloud environments (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
    • Comfortable building and scaling APIs/backend systems in enterprise SaaS environments.
    • Experience with containerisation and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
    • Strong understanding of modern deployment and operational practices.
    • Testing-first architect with history of driving TDD and performance testing strategies.

    • Capable of explaining complex technical ideas in accessible business language.
    • Excellent problem-solving—balancing innovation with pragmatic solutions to meet business requirements.
