Job Title: Software QA Engineer
Salary: Up to £65k per annum
FTC: 14-months (potential to go perm)
Location: Cambridge
Are you a Software QA Engineer with strong communication skills, quality mindset, and able to engage developers without alienating them? If you're someone who champions quality throughout the software development lifecycle, from reviewing requirements through to testing and delivery, this could be a great opportunity for you!
This is a 14-month maternity cover, with the potential to become permanent.
You’ll work closely with software engineers, project managers, and test teams to improve testability, identify risks, and ensure software products meet quality and reliability standards.
What you’ll be doing:
- Create, maintain, and execute manual and automated test plans and test cases
- Review requirements and assess testability and risks
- Identify, log, track, and report defects
- Monitor software performance, usability, and functionality
- Work closely with development teams to improve testability and quality
- Produce test reports, quality plans, and supporting documentation
- Contribute to improving testing processes, tools, and standards
- Support and coach teams on software quality and testing best practices
- Track and report testing and defect metrics

What you’ll bring:
- Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related subject, or equivalent experience
- 5+ years’ software development experience
- 3+ years’ experience in Software QA or a similar role
- Strong knowledge of manual, automated, and exploratory testing
- Experience with QA, test management, and defect tracking tools
- Strong understanding of the software development lifecycle
- Experience working with Agile/Scrum methodologies
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and contribute to continuous improvement
- Strong attention to quality and customer outcomes

Desirable:
- Scripting experience with Python, Unix shell, Java, or C#
- Experience with tools such as Git, TeamCity, Jenkins, Artifactory, JUnit, or Jira
- Experience with test automation tools such as Selenium, Appium, Cucumber, or Gherkin
- Understanding of TDD and BDD
- Experience with Android development using Java or Kotlin
- Awareness of modern software build and delivery practices
