Standard Job Description
Develops, modifies and applies quality principles to the development and use of software and software-based systems for make and/or buy software products. Performs verification and validation of test equipment including hardware in the loop systems. Develops overall operating criteria to ensure implementation of the software quality program according to project, process and contract requirements and objectives. Designs and implements software development and maintenance processes. Defines audit strategy to ensure compliance to systems/software processes. Designs, specifies and conducts test methods for software inspection, verification and validation. Evaluates and analyzes software quality systems for deficiency identification and correction. Ensures measures meet acceptable reliability standards. Performs software product reviews against contractual, technical and/or process requirements. Reviews include requirement specifications, design documents, source code, test plans and procedures, materials, tools, techniques, and methodologies. Performs or directs verification of software requirement allocations, traceability, and testability.
About The Role
This role acts as the lead Software Quality Assurance (QA) representative for Lockheed Martin (LM) UK Rotary and Mission Systems (RMS) (LM UK RMS) within Systems Solutions. Based at Havant or Gloucester, the role supports and advises on all aspects of regulatory and 3rd party certifications associated with the LM presence on various sites.
Activities May Include But Not Limited To
- Software Quality Assurance oversight of the various programmes across LM UK RMS.
- Software Quality Assurance oversight of C6Cyber functional area (C6 – Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Cyber-Defense and Combat Systems).
- Software Quality Assurance oversight of Merlin Mk2 helicopter mission system equipment and other aviation platforms.
- Inspection and acceptance of modification/upgrades carried out across Training Logistic Systems (TLS) in support the ongoing training of military personnel using a variety of simulator and classroom equipment and resources.
- Software Quality Assurance oversight of Integrated Warfare Systems and Sensors (IWSS)
- Software Quality Assurance across the CADMID cycle where required.
- Arranging, Planning and supporting audits from external (customer, regulatory and certification assessment) bodies.
- Engagement with external industry, Government and Military Quality Assurance staff.

The Software QA representative is responsible for ensuring that activities supporting the above are carried out in accordance with regulatory, statutory, company and local plans, processes and procedures.
The post holder is also required to provide Software QA oversight to the delegated signatory for equipment release should it be requested and would be required to undertake Root Cause investigation and process improvement activities, to drive improved performance. Supply chain monitoring and assessment, including subcontractor site audits, inspections, etc. in collaboration with other functions, will also be required.
Required Skills, Qualifications And Experience
- Qualification in software design, engineering, or computer science (NVQ Level 4/ONC or above).
- Qualified AS9100 Lead auditor (preferred) or Qualified Lead Auditor in one of the following ISO 9001, 2000 or 27001.
- An understanding of software QA methodologies, tools, and processes, knowledge of SQL and scripting, working experience in software development and software quality assurance.
- Current knowledge of trends and latest advancements.
- Knowledge/experience of ISO 20000 – IT Services Management.
- Knowledge/experience of ISO 27001 – Information Security Management Systems.
- Familiarity with Agile development techniques.
- Root Cause Analysis qualification.
- Experience estimating work loading and task management.
- Ability to work with and influence across multiple functions and levels within a small team.

Desired Skills
- Experience of UK MoD Maritime, Land and Air based programmes.
- Experience of UK MoD Military Aviation Authority (MAA) Regulatory Publications (MRPs).
- Familiar with UK MAA Military Approved Organisation Scheme (MAOS).
- Familiar with UK MAA Design Approved Organisation Scheme (DAOS).
- Experience of Allied Quality Assurance Publications (AQAPs) and Joint Service Publications (JSPs).
- Lean Six Sigma (Green Belt or Black Belt).
- Understanding of training systems (Defence Systems Approach to Training (DSAT)) or equivalent.
- Human Factors Training.
- Familiarity with the use of system and software integrated development environmental tools (e.g. Atlassian toolset).
- Occurrence Investigator qualification.
- Previous Military experience of benefit.
