Department Overview
Our Pronto Deployment team provides mission critical software to UK emergency service agencies, with our primary focus being the Pronto Digital Policing app.
Pronto is the most popular mobile policing application in the UK, trusted by over half of the UK’s 45 police forces - and used by around 75,000 police officers on a daily basis. Pronto has been designed with and for front line operational users. As a result, it is an intuitive solution, with positive adoption, excellent user compliance and consistently positive feedback.
Based in the West End of Glasgow, we currently have around 100 employees. Our team started as Kelvin Connect in 2002, a spin-out company from the University of Glasgow. Now, as part of Motorola Solutions, we continue to expand with future opportunities in the UK and beyond.
Job Description
We are seeking an experienced, detail-oriented and proactive Test Engineer. The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out testing to ensure product stability with every release.
Typical activities include:
- Testing of software solutions / applications to ensure that the developed products meet the requirements and are free of defects
- Writing, maintaining and executing Test cases
- Reading and understanding requirements documentation provided by a Technical Project Manager, Customer, or another member of the Motorola Solutions team
- Being involved in the process of clarifying and refining requirements
- Providing estimated timescales for the testing of requirements
- Producing and maintaining appropriate documentation for tracking quality metrics
- Completing work to a high standard
- Completing work in a timely manner
- Attend Customer premises periodically to witness on-site software use

This role offers flexible, hybrid working with an expectancy to attend the Glasgow office several times per month, where applicable.
Basic Requirements
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
- Accountable for the overall quality of Pronto deliveries to all customers
- Produce and maintain documentation relating to quality metrics
- Accountable for analysing trends and implementing solutions to improve quality
- Responsible for ensuring Pronto delivery teams and following testing best practices
- Responsible for helping roll out automated test solutions to Pronto delivery teams
- Identifying new tools and technologies and ideas that may improve quality
Academic & Technical Requirements
Must have:
- 3 years UK residency is required for security check
- A formal qualification (Degree) in Computing Science or equivalent experience
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
- 3+ years experience of commercial software testing
Desirable:
- Knowledge of Agile methodologies
- ISTQB certification
- Knowledge of automation or an interest in learning this
- Experience of Java or another OO language
- Knowledge of source code management technologies (e.g. GIT, SubVersion etc.)
- Knowledge of software development / issue tracking systems (e.g. GitHub, Azure DevOps, Jira, etc.)
- Experience with Smartphone testing (Android)
- Experience with automated test frameworks (e.g. Playwright, Appium, Cypress etc.)
- Experience of XML and XSLT
Soft Skills:
- A high level of communication skills and technical understanding
- Have an Analytical Mindset, where you look at a manual process and immediately start thinking about how to script it.
- Ability to explain technical bugs to non-technical stakeholders clearly.
- Taking pride in the quality of releases and not being afraid to block a deployment release if quality standards aren't met.
- Can be outspoken when projects are producing sub-standard output
- Can communicate with the Core software development team to understand solution behaviour
- Can communicate with Pronto delivery teams to understand quality issues and improve where required
- Have a critical eye for detail, that challenges the status quo
- Capable of delivering critical feedback without damaging relationships
- Continually assess workload and prioritise relevant work activities
