Software Test Engineer

Hertfordshire | Hybrid Working (3-4 Days On-Site)
£42,000 - £50,000 + Excellent Benefits

Security Clearance: British Citizen or a Dual UK national with British citizenship is an essential requirement for this role.

The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Software Test Engineer to join a growing team working on advanced simulation and experimentation systems within a highly technical engineering environment.

You'll be responsible for the full software testing lifecycle, ensuring products are thoroughly tested, validated and ready for deployment. Working closely with software engineers, integration teams and end-users, you'll contribute to projects from concept and development through to integration, demonstration and customer delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute software test plans, test cases and test procedures.
  • Verify software functionality against system requirements and customer expectations.
  • Support software integration, proving and validation activities.
  • Investigate software defects and unexpected system behaviour.
  • Analyse logs, system outputs and test data to identify root causes and support issue resolution.
  • Produce clear test reports and validation evidence.
  • Work closely with development teams throughout Agile software delivery cycles.
  • Support demonstrations, trials and customer-facing activities where required.

Essential Skills & Experience

We're interested in hearing from candidates with experience in the following areas:

  • Software testing, integration testing, system testing or software validation.
  • Developing and executing test plans, test procedures and verification activities.
  • Investigating defects and troubleshooting software-related issues.
  • Log analysis and interpretation of test results.
  • Working within Agile development environments.
  • Experience using defect and task management tools such as Jira.
  • Familiarity with source control and CI/CD environments, including GitLab.
  • Scripting or automation experience using Python.
  • Understanding of software architecture and system integration principles.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
