Apprentice Software Tester - 18 month Fixed Term Contract
Salary: £25,775 per annum
Location: Flexible - with the ability to travel throughout our operating region
Hours: 37 hours per week

We're looking for 2 Apprentice Test Engineers to join our Portfolio Management Office (PMO), where the successful candidates will be able to learn together, exchange ideas and build their knowledge and confidence collaboratively from day one.
This is an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience supporting testing activities across a range of business projects and programmes while working towards a recognised apprenticeship qualification. You'll work alongside experienced colleagues, learning how to ensure systems meet user needs, perform reliably, and deliver great experiences for colleagues and customers. Within the role you will study for the Level 4 Software Tester Apprenticeship.
You'll play an important role in helping us deliver high-quality technology solutions, supporting testing activities that reduce delivery risk, improve user experience, and ensure systems perform as expected across the organisation. This is an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys technology, problem-solving, and continuous learning.
What You'll Be Doing
As an Apprentice Test Engineer, you'll support a variety of testing and quality assurance activities, including:
- Assisting with the creation of test plans, test cases, and test scripts.
- Supporting different types of testing, including Functional Testing, User Acceptance Testing (UAT), and Regression Testing.
- Helping identify, record, and track system defects through to resolution.
- Working with colleagues to understand business requirements and ensure appropriate test coverage.
- Participating in test cycles and providing progress updates.
- Gradually taking ownership of more complex testing activities as your skills and confidence develop.
- Maintaining testing documentation and records.
- Supporting the production of reports on testing outcomes and findings.
- Learning and applying testing methodologies, standards, tools, and processes.
- Contributing ideas to improve testing approaches and team effectiveness.
- Assisting with identifying opportunities for automation and efficiency improvements.
- Ensuring testing activities consider the needs of both colleagues and customers.

This is a hybrid role which will enable you to work from home if you wish. However, you will be expected to travel to our offices across the region to support on-site testing activities and collaborate with colleagues through regular team meetings. You'll work closely with project teams and business areas, providing excellent opportunities to build professional relationships and develop your communication skills.
Our operating region includes Hampshire, Wiltshire, Somerset, Dorset, Devon, Cornwall, and London.
What We're Looking For
We're keen to hear from motivated individuals who are eager to develop a career in technology and testing.
Essential
- GCSE Maths & English grades C/4 and above.
- Minimum of 3 A-levels (or equivalent Level 3 qualification), or significant relevant work experience demonstrating transferable skills.
- Interest in technology, systems, software testing, or quality assurance.
- Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to work.
- Good communication skills.
- Ability to organise workloads and meet deadlines.
- Willingness to learn and develop new skills.
- Basic IT skills, including Microsoft Office applications.

Desirable
- Awareness of software development or software testing concepts.
- Previous experience using IT systems, databases, or digital tools.
- Experience working in a team environment and collaborating with others.
- A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for work purposes.
