Solar HSE Coordinator – Scotland
£500 per day (outside IR35) + min 6-month rolling contract
We are seeking an experienced Solar HSE Coordinator to support the safe delivery of renewable energy construction projects in Scotland.
Working closely with the project and construction teams, contractors and site personnel, you will provide day-to-day HSE coordination across the project, helping to ensure that construction activities are carried out safely and in accordance with UK and Scottish health, safety and environmental requirements.
This is a hands-on, site-based role suited to an HSE professional who is comfortable working directly with construction teams and contractors and ensuring HSE requirements are understood and followed.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day HSE support and coordination across the construction site.
- Monitor contractor and subcontractor compliance with project HSE requirements.
- Carry out regular site inspections and HSE walks, identifying hazards and areas requiring improvement.
- Support the implementation and monitoring of the project HSE plan.
- Review RAMS, permits, risk assessments and method statements.
- Monitor compliance with safe systems of work and site procedures.
- Support toolbox talks, inductions and HSE briefings.
- Assist with incident, near-miss and hazard reporting and investigations.
- Track corrective actions and ensure issues are followed through to close-out.
- Maintain HSE records, registers, inspection reports and supporting documentation.
- Support environmental controls and monitoring where required.
- Liaise with site management, contractors and project teams to address HSE issues.
- Provide guidance to site personnel on appropriate HSE requirements and controls.
- Support audits, inspections and regulatory/compliance activities.
- Escalate significant HSE risks or non-compliances to the Project/HSE Manager.
- Promote a positive safety culture across the project.

Experience & Requirements
- 3+ years' experience in HSE, site safety or construction supervision.
- Experience working within construction, renewable energy, infrastructure or a similar high-risk environment.
- Strong knowledge of UK health and safety legislation and requirements, with an understanding of Scottish requirements.
- Practical experience carrying out site inspections and monitoring contractor compliance.
- Experience reviewing RAMS, risk assessments and method statements.
- Good understanding of construction site hazards and control measures.
- Experience supporting incident/near-miss reporting and corrective actions.
- Confident communicating with contractors, supervisors and site teams.
- Strong organisational and record-keeping skills.
- Ability to work proactively and identify potential HSE issues before they become incidents.
- Comfortable working in a busy construction environment and challenging unsafe practices where necessary.

Desirable
- NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent.
- IOSH membership or relevant HSE qualification.
- CSCS, SMSTS or SSSTS.
- Renewable energy, solar PV, BESS or electrical construction experience.
- Environmental/HSE experience within large-scale construction projects.
- Experience working with principal contractors and multiple subcontractors.
- Experience working on projects in Scotland.
