Job Title: O&M Service Engineer

Activ8 Solar Energies is Ireland's leading solar and renewable energy company. We are seeking a safety conscious Solar Operations & Maintenance Service Engineer to join our Commercial Operations & Maintenance team. This is a full-time, permanent position offering a competitive salary, company vehicle, pension, private healthcare, and a comprehensive benefits package.

You’ll work across Ireland, you will play a key role in the operation and maintenance of a diverse portfolio of commercial, industrial, and utility-scale solar PV systems. Through preventative, corrective, and reactive maintenance, you will help maximise system performance, minimise downtime, and deliver an exceptional level of service to our clients. This is a hybrid position, offering a blend of office-based working from our Carrickmacross Head Office and Dublin offices, remote home working, and site attendance as required.

The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Operations & Maintenance Service Engineer with a strong electrical background and proven solar O&M experience to support the operation and maintenance of our extensive C&I solar portfolio. This is a hands-on, field-based role requiring regular travel and time away from home to ensure optimal performance, availability, and safety of our solar assets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in developing and maintaining solar Monitoring platforms / SCADA systems and assisting in creating performance reporting.
  • Assist in carrying out planned maintenance activities in line with O&M schedules and OEM requirements.
  • Manage (and from time to time) corrective maintenance on solar PV systems, including panels, inverters, switchgear, combiner boxes, and monitoring systems and all associated parts not itemised not exclusive to Ground mount and Rooftop installations.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose electrical & monitoring faults to minimise downtime and restore system performance and efficiency.
  • Respond where needed to reactive callouts and fault alarms, including breakdowns and system failures.
  • Where applicable conduct electrical testing and inspection (e.g. IV curve tracing, insulation resistance, thermal imaging etc).
  • Manage warranty claims and activities as required.
  • Maintain and uphold Activ8 Energies high standards for Quality, Health, Safety & Environment (QHSE) and ensure all work is carried out in compliance with regulation, method statements, and risk assessments, this includes updating dynamic RAMS where applicable.
  • Maintain accurate service reports, maintenance records, and fault logs.
  • Ensure all required service documentation is issued accurately and on time.
  • Must be willing to work away from home due to the locations of the asset or issue, if there is any doubt at all please do not apply.
  • Manage any additional Sub-Contractors / Activ8 employees that are required to complete the task at hand.

Qualifications & Key Skills

  • Electrical and Solar PV O&M experience is preferable.
  • Full Clean Driver’s Licence.
  • Qualified Electrician (National Craft Certificate or equivalent).
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in electrical installation, maintenance, or renewable energy.
  • Experience working on commercial or industrial electrical systems.
  • IPAF / Harness training is essential or a willingness to carry out along with working at height. - Training will be given.
  • Strong understanding of HV, LV and SCADA systems.
  • Knowledge of Huawei, Sungrow or SMA inverter systems desirable.
  • Experience with CDM regulations and the ability to dynamically amend RAMS is preferred but not essential as training will be given.
  • Drone License or a willingness to complete.
  • Experience with utility-scale solar assets, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) or EV charging infrastructure desirable.
  • High level of accuracy in reporting documentation, Organisation, time management, and self-motivation.
  • Experience in a fast-paced environment involving problem-solving and communicating with your line manager & manufacturer service helplines.
  • Excellent written, IT, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
