We’re looking for an experienced and appropriately qualified solar electrical professional to join our Completions team as a Solar PV & Battery Technical Supervisor.
This is an ideal opportunity for someone looking to move into an off-the-tools technical role, while still staying closely involved in live domestic solar PV and battery installations.
⚡ The role
You’ll be responsible for specific domestic solar PV and battery installations under the redeveloped MCS Installer Scheme.
You’ll assess the level of supervision required, monitor technical evidence while installations are taking place, and complete the final technical review before sign-off.
This is not simply a paperwork or administration role.
You’ll be expected to make clear technical decisions, challenge work that doesn’t meet the required standards, and refuse sign-off where an installation or its supporting evidence isn’t satisfactory.
Most supervision will be completed remotely through our job-management and installation-evidence systems. However, some installations may require closer supervision, direct contact with installation teams or an on-site technical inspection.
🔍 What you’ll be responsible for
- Act as an assigned Technical Supervisor for solar PV and battery installations, taking responsibility for safety, technical standards, quality and compliance.
- Determine and record the appropriate level of supervision for each installation, considering the work involved and the installation team’s competence and performance.
- Monitor live installation evidence and complete remote technical checks using photographs, documentation, telephone calls and video reviews.
- Require further evidence or corrective action where concerns are identified, escalating installations requiring closer supervision or a site inspection.
- Review electrical certification, test results, commissioning records, designs, DNO documentation and customer handover evidence.
- Confirm compliance with MCS Installation Standards, BS 7671, Building Regulations, manufacturer instructions and Contact Solar requirements.
- Approve installations for completion or refuse technical sign-off, raising clear non-conformances and remedial requirements where necessary.
- Review completed remedial work and formally close technical non-conformances once compliance has been demonstrated.
- Maintain accurate and auditable records of supervision decisions, technical involvement, installation reviews and sign-offs.
- Support MCS and Certification Body audits, identify recurring quality issues and provide technical feedback to installation partners and internal teams.
- Assist with technical queries, difficult installations and customer escalations, working closely with Completions, Installer Operations, Operational Compliance, Technical, Health & Safety and Customer Service.

👷 What we’re looking for
- A recognised Level 3 electrotechnical qualification.
- Current BS 7671 qualification.
- Inspection and Testing qualification, such as City & Guilds 2391-52 or an approved equivalent.
- Current solar PV and electrical energy storage qualifications or personal certification meeting MCS Technical Supervisor competence requirements.
- Practical experience installing, commissioning, inspecting or technically supervising domestic solar PV and battery systems.
- Strong knowledge of MCS requirements, Building Regulations, DNO requirements, electrical certification, commissioning and manufacturer instructions.
- Ability to review designs, single-line diagrams, test results, installation evidence and technical documentation, identifying workmanship or compliance defects.
- Confidence making technical decisions and refusing sign-off where required standards or evidence haven’t been met.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to review a high volume of technical evidence while maintaining accurate, auditable records.
- Clear communication skills and confidence explaining technical requirements to installers, colleagues and customers.
- Comfortable using digital job-management and evidence-capture systems.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to attend installation sites when required.

⭐ Useful, but not essential
- Previous experience as an MCS Nominated Technical Person, Technical Supervisor or NICEIC Qualified Supervisor.
- Experience within a solar installation completions, compliance or technical-review team.
- Experience supporting MCS, NICEIC or other Certification Body audits.
- Experience using Jumptech or a similar field-service and job-management system.
- Manufacturer training covering domestic solar PV, inverter and battery systems.
- A recognised training, assessment, site-management or H&S qualification.
🎁 What we offer
- £45,000–£55,000 basic salary, depending on experience and qualifications.
- 35 contracted hours per week, Monday–Friday.
- 22 days’ annual leave plus bank holidays.
