I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

The firm promotes from within, values genuine collaboration across practice groups and takes pride in its diverse, inclusive and people focused environment. The Manchester office is already active across property, litigation and corporate work, providing a ready-made platform and referral base for a dedicated family practice.
The Role
You will be the founding partner for family law in Manchester. This is a strategic growth role, not a backfill. You will build and lead the practice, establishing a credible local presence whilst collaborating with the London team on cross-referrals and shared clients across complex financial remedy, private children, cohabitation and international family matters.
The practice sits at the intersection of private client, property and litigation work, meaning family lawyers regularly advise on matters with trust, tax, business and overseas asset dimensions. You will have the autonomy to shape the practice, recruit a team over time and drive business development across the North West market, with immediate access to warm referral networks from highly active property, private client and litigation teams.
