We are Hiring: Solicitor – Adults and/or Education
Location: Hampshire Council
Contract: Interim
Rate: £66 per hour
Role
Hampshire County Council is seeking an experienced Solicitor to join its Legal Services team, specialising in Adults and/or Education matters. You will provide expert legal advice, manage complex caseloads and represent the Council in court and tribunal proceedings.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a complex and high-risk legal caseload.
- Provide clear, practical legal advice to Council departments and senior stakeholders.
- Conduct legal research, assess evidence and advise on risk and liability.
- Draft pleadings, witness statements, agreements, reports and court documents.
- Undertake advocacy before courts and tribunals.
- Manage litigation, negotiation, mediation and dispute resolution.
- Liaise with Counsel, courts, experts and external solicitors.
- Support and supervise junior legal colleagues.
- Ensure compliance with legislation, professional standards and Council procedures.

Essential Requirements
- Qualified Solicitor or Barrister.
- Recent experience in Adults and/or Education law, ideally within a local authority.
- Strong litigation, drafting, advocacy and case-management skills.
- Experience handling complex and sensitive cases.
- Excellent communication, negotiation and client-management skills.
- Ability to work independently and under tight deadlines.
- Ability to travel within Hampshire when required.
