Solicitor – Asbestos & Occupational Disease
Location: Manchester or Sheffield
Working Pattern: Full-time | Hybrid Working Available
Salary: Up to £80,000 DOE
The Opportunity
A leading national law firm is looking to strengthen its specialist Asbestos and Occupational Disease team with the appointment of a Solicitor at 1–5 years' PQE.
This is an excellent opportunity to join a highly respected specialist disease practice, working on a high-quality and rewarding caseload while benefiting from the support and resources of a large national firm.
The successful candidate will be based in either Manchester or Sheffield and will work closely with colleagues across the wider regional team, including established specialists in other North of England offices.
The role offers the opportunity to develop your litigation skills, take ownership of your own litigated caseload and assist senior colleagues on high-value and complex matters.
You'll work closely with clients and their families at some of the most difficult moments in their lives, providing expert legal advice and ensuring they receive the highest standard of support throughout their claims.
The Role
The successful candidate will handle a varied caseload of asbestos and occupational disease claims, working with clients diagnosed with a broad range of asbestos-related and non-asbestos respiratory conditions.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Managing your own litigated caseload from initial instruction through to resolution.
- Acting for clients suffering from mesothelioma, asbestos-related lung cancer, asbestosis and pleural thickening.
- Handling claims involving occupational asthma, silicosis and other workplace-related respiratory illnesses.
- Advising clients and their families throughout the litigation process.
- Assisting Partners and senior colleagues on high-value and complex cases.
- Drafting high-quality legal correspondence, pleadings and other litigation documents.
- Conducting detailed legal research and applying relevant legislation and case law.
- Working collaboratively with colleagues across the wider regional disease team.
- Building strong relationships with clients, professional contacts and referrers.
- Contributing to business development and the continued growth of the practice.

About You
The firm is keen to hear from:
- Qualified Solicitors with around 1–5 years' PQE.
- Candidates with experience in asbestos and occupational disease litigation.
- Lawyers who have experience managing their own litigated caseload.
- Individuals confident in assisting senior colleagues and Partners on high-value or complex matters.
- Solicitors with excellent client care skills and the ability to communicate with empathy and integrity.
- Candidates with a genuine interest in specialist disease litigation and a commitment to achieving the best possible outcomes for clients.
- Individuals with strong drafting, legal research and oral communication skills.
- Lawyers with an aptitude for business development and building effective client and referrer relationships.
The Team
You'll join a highly regarded specialist disease practice within a large national law firm, working alongside experienced lawyers handling complex and often high-value claims.
The team operates collaboratively across its regional offices, providing access to a broad pool of specialist knowledge and experience while allowing you to develop your own caseload and client relationships.
