Solicitor – Education Team

The Opportunity
This is an exciting opportunity for a Solicitor to join our progressive and nationally renowned Education Team, working closely with state-funded schools and further education clients. You will advise on a wide range of legal matters, including:
- Pupil and parent-related issues (safeguarding, welfare, Equality Act considerations)
- Admissions, exclusions, and complaints
- Regulatory matters involving Ofsted and the Department for Education
You’ll also gain exposure to strategic governance work, assisting trustees alongside our Charity team and sector specialists. This varied role offers experience across contentious and non-contentious matters, providing insight into the broader regulatory and commercial landscape affecting schools and colleges.

This role can be based in Bath, Birmingham, Cambridge, Leeds, or Manchester, with hybrid working available.

Key Responsibilities
As a Solicitor in the Education Team, your duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Managing an individual caseload (with appropriate supervision)
- Client-facing engagements, including visits to schools or other locations when necessary
- Collaborating with colleagues across the immediate Team and the wider Firm
- Contributing to knowledge-sharing initiatives within the Education Team and broader firm
- Maintaining prompt and effective communication (internally and externally)
- Upholding continuing professional development (CPD) requirements and expanding expertise in education law
- Supporting senior lawyers in complex/high-profile matters, including:
- Regulatory investigations
- Tribunal claims
- Judicial review proceedings
- Adhering to the Firm’s standards and core values in all work
- Attending and contributing to Team and marketing events
- Assisting with client training sessions, webinars, and sector events
Essential Requirements
- Qualified Solicitor (candidates at all stages of their career are welcome, with training and development offered)
- Prior legal experience advising schools or clients in the education sector
- Strong commitment to career development and continuous learning
- Ability to manage caseloads independently and collaboratively
- Exceptional communication skills with a focus on prioritisation
- High attention to detail
- Proficiency with legal software and Microsoft systems
