Rate: 66/hour

Role Overview

Hampshire County Council is seeking an experienced Level 2 Solicitor to provide specialist legal advice and representation on complex employment law matters. The successful candidate will manage a varied caseload, represent the Council in Employment Tribunals and Courts, draft legal documentation, negotiate settlements, and provide strategic legal support to Council departments while mentoring junior legal staff.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert employment law advice on complex and high-risk matters.
  • Manage a caseload of contentious and non-contentious employment cases.
  • Represent the Council in Employment Tribunals and Courts, undertaking advocacy where appropriate.
  • Draft legal documents including pleadings, agreements, witness statements, and reports.
  • Conduct legal research and provide risk-based legal advice.
  • Negotiate settlements and manage dispute resolution processes.
  • Liaise with clients, Counsel, Courts, and external stakeholders.
  • Supervise and mentor junior legal professionals.
  • Ensure compliance with current legislation, professional standards, and Council policies.

Essential Requirements

  • Qualified Solicitor or Barrister (England & Wales).
  • Strong employment law experience, including handling complex cases.
  • Excellent advocacy, drafting, negotiation, and legal research skills.
  • Proven ability to independently manage a busy caseload.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Experience supervising or mentoring junior legal staff.
  • Ability to travel across Hampshire as required.
