We are a fast-growing law firm with an excellent reputation and are always looking for talented individuals who can complement and enhance our practice. We are seeking an experienced and ambitious Managing Associate who will play a key role in the leadership and development of their department while maintaining a strong client-focused practice.
The Role
The Managing Associate role is a key role between Senior Associate and Head of Department, offering greater responsibility in management, business development, and client retention while still being actively involved in legal work.
Key Responsibilities
- Work and behave in a professional manner and to the highest standards of the profession
- Oversee and manage your own and your teams caseload of matters from start to finish, ensuring timely and effective case progress
- Conduct comprehensive legal research to support case strategies to an excellent standard
- Draw up contracts and other legal documents to an excellent standard
- Comply with procedures, professional standards, and any requirement set by the SRA as well as internal policies
- Treat all information about the firm and its client and their business as wholly confidential
- Keep up to date with changes in the law of your practice area and regulation generally
- Continuously demonstrate that you are technically very able to work without significant supervision
- Maintain and excel in a reputation in your area of expertise
- Keep up to date knowledge and understanding of KYC and money laundering regulations

Client Relationship Management
- Establish what needs to be done to solve a client’s problems, acting as a trusted advisor
- Attend and represent at client & stakeholder meetings, online meetings, and hearings
- Research documents and case history to ensure accuracy of advice and procedures
- Understand who the client is and what additional support we can offer them across the practice
- Build and maintain strong, trustworthy relationships with clients
- Deliver high-quality advice and representation to ensure client satisfaction and loyalty
Case Management and Profitability
- Lead and oversee a team of junior lawyers, ensuring quality work and efficiency
- Ensure all files are handled with a standard of excellence
- Ensure the efficient and profitable management of cases
- Handle high-value and complex matters within your area of expertise
- Provide innovative and forward-thinking strategies for fee-earning work
- Maintain accurate and well-organised client files, ensuring all administrative tasks and documentation are completed in a timely and compliant manner
- Participate in quarterly file reviews to ensure compliance with regulations and identify areas for improvement

Team Collaboration & Personal Development
- Take responsibility of shaping and developing your career path by positively participating in 1 to 1’s and goal setting meetings
- Proactively participate in all team meetings
- Read journals and attend internal/external training courses as part of continuing professional development (CPD) and keeping track of your CPD
- Stay current with developments and relevant legal precedents
- Provide mentorship, training, and support to junior lawyers and associates & encouraging professional growth and development
- Act as a key point of contact between senior leadership and the wider team
- Collaborate effectively with colleagues across departments to achieve firm-wide objectives
- Assist in financial planning for the department, ensuring profitability and efficient case management
Risk and Compliance
- Identify, monitor, and mitigate potential risks in casework and departmental operations
- Adhere to the firm’s policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards
- Support your Head of Department to ensure your team are up to date with compliance, this includes training and monitoring
