In-House Solicitor – Property
37.5 hours per week
Salary: £50,500 plus competitive benefits
Hybrid with 1 day per week in the Northampton office

We’re looking for an experienced In-House Solicitor who specialises in property matters, to join our Legal team and provide practical, commercially focused legal advice across our property portfolio.
This is an opportunity to use your property expertise in a role where your advice will have a tangible impact – supporting colleagues to manage risk, progress important property projects and ensure Sue Ryder’s property interests are protected.
You’ll be responsible for…
- Managing a varied caseload of commercial property matters.
- Drafting, reviewing and negotiating property contracts and leases, including renewals, licences to alter, assignments, underleases, rent deposit deeds, deeds of variation, easements and wayleaves.
- Conducting legal due diligence and title investigations.
- Providing practical, commercially focused property legal advice and identifying appropriate ways to manage legal risk.
- Advising on property leases, disputes and potential mitigations.
- Supporting internal teams with major property projects and providing legal advice across property transactions and related issues.
- Managing the legal aspects of acquisitions, renewals and disposals of Sue Ryder’s retail shops, working in-house and overseeing outsourced transactions where required.
- Supporting senior managers with new legal and regulatory developments affecting the charity.
- Contributing to the identification and assessment of legal risks and providing advice on legal, regulatory and compliance matters.
- Representing Legal on relevant groups, committees and focus groups.

The ideal candidate would be…
We’re looking for an experienced property solicitor who combines strong technical expertise with commercial awareness and a pragmatic, solutions-focused approach.
You’ll be confident providing clear advice, working collaboratively with colleagues across the charity and translating complex legal issues into practical solutions.
Minimum Essential criteria
To be successful in this role, you will need to demonstrate:
- You are a qualified solicitor with significant post-qualification experience and hold a current practising certificate.
- Significant experience of property law and conveyancing, including advising on commercial property matters.
- Experience of drafting, reviewing and advising on property-related legal documents and transactions.
- The ability to provide practical, commercially focused legal advice, identifying legal risks and appropriate mitigations.
- The ability to communicate complex legal matters clearly and effectively to colleagues and stakeholders who are not legally qualified.
- The ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines and manage a varied caseload in a changing environment.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and drafting skills, with good attention to detail.
Desirable criteria
- Previous in-house legal experience.
- Experience of managing or using a property management system.
- Experience working within the charity, healthcare or another regulated environment.
- Experience advising on a broad range of commercial property matters, including leases, licences, assignments, underleases, easements and wayleaves.
